Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for October 29, 2012
Transcript:
Goat: I can't believe Rat is running for president. Pig: He's just not happy with the current candidates. For one thing, each of them wears a single flag pin in their lapel. Goat: So? Rat: So I have 137. Goat: Maybe I'll write in myself for president. Rat: Don't do it. You have no flag pins.

freeholder1 about 12 years ago

Rats wearing lapels…where would the others put the pins? OUCH!

Rat will make a great prez…he sees the risk(s), and seeks the bottom line. We need that. He would also abolish welfare except for the most dire cases, take SS back to dwell within it’s intended boundaries, not be raided…except for beer. Wake up folks!
Sisyphos about 12 years ago
Vote for Rat! 137 times better than the other guys!
Brian Fink about 12 years ago
He’s got the most pieces of flair!

Flag pins are phony. Patriotism is in your heart or it is not.. We need Goat!
jessegooddoggy about 12 years ago
At least Rat won’t turn us into a theocracy.
Spamgaard about 12 years ago
I couldn’t possibly vote for Rat, his flag pins are unpatriotic… not a single flag pin has a flag pin on it! Disgusting!

Rat is obviously in bed with the flag pin lobby.

Wave the Flag; wear the pins; kiss the babies; decry the immorality of others; Rat IS a true Patriot!.

And also doing poorly in Michigan, where he was born and where his father was Governor.

The political calls started at 8:30 this morning & I was happy to announce to the callers that they can stop calling – WE’VE ALREADY VOTED! Now, how to stop the robo calls???.Do you think Pastis is referring to the one presidential candidate who rarely wears a flag pin?
freeholder1 about 12 years ago
Pins made in China, via WalMart.
wgwonka about 12 years ago
Has anyone noticed that Romney’s and Ryan’s flag pins are twice as big as Obama’s and Biden’s. Maybe Rat has the right idea.

“Patriotism is the final refuge of the scoundrel,” according to Samuel Johnson. Every time I see those flag lapel pins, that comes to mind, regardless of the wearer’s party. It has become a cliche, like kissing babies, to wear those pins. None of the men running for presidential and vice presidential offices served in the military, which seems one price for wearing the flag without seeming a pandering hypocrite.

POTUS = vermin. Thus, Rat wouldn’t have big shoes to fill.

Rat is better than someone who is a member of a racist church of hate or believes in magic underwear.
Squoop about 12 years ago
Any of these characters would be better than Romney.

I don’t need to have a flag stuck on my clothes or glued on my car, because I am an American; I don’t have to prove it.·People who cover themselves with flags are the ones the FBI should investigate; nobody puts up that big a front unless they’re hiding something.
Rickapolis about 12 years ago
Wow, 137 lapel pins. Rat must be REALLY patriotic.
Gokie5 about 12 years ago
“. . . see how they tower over that brick wall in the background . . .”It’s perspective. When I look out our back sliding-glass door, the school-bus shelter on First St. appears to be only 3/4" tall.
comicgal10 about 12 years ago
I would so vote for rat to be president
Buggerlugs about 12 years ago
No lapels, no lapel pins.

I’m pretty sure Rat doesn’t even normally have a lapel. And I’d look more closely at those flags. Can’t see them in the comic, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were Jolly Rogers.
comicmanfan about 12 years ago
this is very funny!! thumbs up if you agree or respond!
Zebrails about 12 years ago
I have a thumb up somewhere… over the rainbow. One thing confuses me, how does Pig know what a lapel is?
einarbt7 about 12 years ago
Why? Rat does not sound that bad.
william.keisler about 6 years ago
Rat sounds like what was thought to be the future of the republican in 2012

I had an American Flag pin on my work name tag for a while, until I broke the pinshaft off trying to adjust it. Does that mean I could be President?
