Voice in background: Sir, one of your opponents in this race seeks to raise taxes on the wealthy. ANother opponent has a tax plan that some say could raise taxes on the middle class. What approach do you favor? Rat: My own. Voice in background: Which is what? Rat: To single out stupid people and make them pay more. Voice in background: That can't be constitutional. Rat: Oh, right. Like they'll figure that out.

If we could tax stupidity, we’d have budget surpluses far into the future.
Stan King about 12 years ago
Yep, it’s called the lottery and it’s completely constitutional because the stupid people volunteer to pay.
naturally_easy about 12 years ago
How about having a personal tax increase every time you don’t use a turn signal when legally required to do so.

The tax on tobacco is a tax that stupid people continue to pay.
Havelock_Vetinari about 12 years ago
If we taxed the stupid most of Congress would have to start paying double.
Sisyphos about 12 years ago
‘Tis true, lottery is oft called the Fools’ Tax; but a simple, straightforward tax on stupidity would be a most deserving variety of “sin tax,” along with the already-existing high taxes on alcohol, tobacco, etc.

Make marijuana & prostitution legal. Erase the national debt in less than a decade.
LiveToSurf about 12 years ago
We are ALL stupid enough to elect them and then they raise taxes on us while paying very little themselves. Too late rat your policy has already been tested and proved over the last 30 to 40 decades.

Everybody( and all corporations, churches, clubs, cartoonists, unions, religious owned business, prostitutes, drug dealers, homeless, etc.) should pay a minimum of 1% on gross receipts, wages, donations, tithing, dues, bundles of sticks etc.

I suspect jukeofurl left out a key element of his plan. Make marijuana and prostitution legal – and tax them. If you added pornography to the list, it would raise revenue even more.
no1ofconsequence about 12 years ago
Isn’t rat’s plan just called “the lottery”?
JeffdlS about 12 years ago
Seems like Rat is making sense.

Vote for Rat 2012! Tax the stupid people! Does anyone remember which day it was that the comic aired that had Little Guard Duck saying, “Go ahead! Make my day…” ?
burleigh2 about 12 years ago
But… aren’t most all of the stupid already broke? Except for some of the rednecks with reality shows, I think the rest wouldn’t have much of any money to tax in the first place. :-s

I remember a stand-up comedian saying that the debt could be erased if everyone who did something stupid (e.g., jabbing at the elevator button after it’s already been pressed) had to pay a $5 fine.

It’s people like Rat that make me mad.

“Stupid” is a very harsh word.

This is an excellent plan. Except, who gets to decide who is stupid?

Did Rat just call me stupid?

A tax on stoopid wood fix everyting!
sandigilbo about 12 years ago
A lot of us self-employed people DO add a ‘stupid tax’ or ‘pta fee’ (pain in the @??) when we have difficult, obnoxious, unreasonable or overly demanding customers. If they don’t accept our bid, then we have not lost anything – as my sanity is extremely valuable.

Lottery = a tax on people who can’t count.
Alexander the Good Enough about 12 years ago
Heck, half of all Americans are of below average intelligence, and a good may more aren’t much smarter than that, and too many of them vote. Thus the Republican Party, as it is currently positioned as the party of the easily duped, is assured a near majority at the very least in any national election. And when they get elected, it’s the stupid people that one way or another are taxed, you betcha!
marshalljpeters Premium Member about 12 years ago
You know, it kind of reflects on a person’s intelligence to call another party stupid just because you don’t agree with it. I’m not a political person, but if I was I don’t know what party I’d belong to. They all seem to have ideas I agree with, and also some that seem wrong to me.

LOWRIDER84 about 12 years ago
You can’t do that, rat.It wouldn’t be right to only tax Democrats.
