Marigold: Settle down and listen to some music, or we will be asked to leave. Phoebe: I don't care. Record stores are boring and they smell weird. THAT,, on the other hand, is AWESOME. Marigold: Unicorn.
Ha! We all saw that one coming. This explains the nostalgia for LPs. She must still be working on a spell for laser scanning. Maybe Phoebe can help her with that.
My mom still has all her old records, eight tracks, and casette tapes. She is slowly accepting CDs as more then just a bank thing, and DVDs are entering her collection. MP3 is a little too advanced as yet. I will take her to the 21st century.
There is some vibration caught on vinyl hi-fi that digital misses. The wavelength does not have to be in audible range to be perceived..I was in a concert hall during a tribute. They were playing clips from announcers past. Nice historical perspec and all that. But then they actually played one from a record player straight into the microphone. The hall became deadly silent. Not only myself, but 1000’s of people around me got the eerie feeling that a person who’d died 50 years before was actually standing at the podium speaking into the mike.
Today seems another instance of MAR being a teenager in magic training. .She needs a fixed recording to tranceive all those wavelenghs bouncing around, rather than the advanced magic of a time splinch to the original performance, then transceiveing the wild wavelengths as they were, when they were first produced.
.Volume control always nasty for transmitting a live performance. How do they ever get open air concerts to work?
No, technically, a cylinder is a “phonograph” and a disk is a “gramophone”. However, for various historical reasons, including sheer human randomness, it ended up being “phonograph” for both in the USA and “gramophone” for both in the UK. Stupid humans.
“Victrola” was a trade name, but became genericized.
Records are making a little bit of a comeback it seems. I see current music being sold in stores lately. So with that in mind… having a unicorn who can play music with a record like that would make her so cool and awesome that it might even breach the shield of boringness! :)

Way awesomer than your silly MP3 player! (Does this mean Marigold’s head is hollow, so it acts as an amplifier?!)

Diamond or Ruby tipped horn? Well, magic-tipped is probably the best.

I still have some old 78s with the label “The Victor Talking Machine Company”, some recorded only on one side.

Awesome strip. My audiophile son smiled when I made him read it.

I remember my favorite record shop. It was the “Record Swap” in Champaign, IL. It too is long gone.
