While the idea is certainly thinking out of the box, it doesn’t seem practical. For what it’s worth, I think Gunther has realized Luann is not his ideal match, even though she likes and respects him. How his relationship with Rosa turns out is a matter for conjecture. I think he needs a “Penelope Garcia” type in the long run.

I see absolutely nothing that could go wrong with this plan, after all T.J. isn’t involved.

In the CDC article which I mentioned at some length yesterday, there is a map of the US showing the decline in teen pregnancies in each state. The states with the smallest declines – and one must therefore assume the least successful programs – were the bible-belt states. One also presumes that those states would be the ones leading in the proportion of abstinence-based education programs. The statistics imply strongly that those programs are the least effective in reducing teen pregnancy. Obviously, abstinence is a fool proof way to prevent pregnancy, but only if one practices it. In areas where abstinence is pushed as the ONLY way, the use of contraceptives is obviously lower; ergo, given the hormone levels in 13-19 year olds, their sexual activity is the highest risk. This “double date” does not sound like a good idea to me. Live Rosa, Luann, and shy Gunther, and only a digital Quill, could lead to all kinds of unforeseen and unintended consequences….

Will Quill try to punch Gunther through the screen for going noticing Luann more than Rosa? Or will Rosa walk out and leave Gunther over Luann? Will GUnther follow Rosa if she leaves and let her know he is with her or will he stay back with Luann?^^Best post you’ve made to date, exactly the kinds of scenarios I’m wondering about. Truth is, if the “real Luann” is the writer; Gunther will end up with Rosa, or alone, if Greg writes it, Gunther and Luann will end up together! lol

Gee, a date in which one person is tied to their phone talking to someone who’s not there? That’s a sure recipe for a fun-filled evening. If Gunther and Rosa ever get close, it’ll start then because Luann’ll be too absorbed with Quill and herself (not necessarily in that order) to pay them any attention until it’s time to pay for dinner.

BTW, I have a 36-year-old unmarried stepdaughter with three kids from two different fathers. She’s also unempolyed and can’t find a job. Guess who’s paying her bills? But, yeah, it’s abstinence that’s a failure. Brilliant. That’s the kind of logic that says we should just sell arms to Hamas because they’re going to try killing as many Jews as they can anyway so why try to discourage them?

There was an episode on The Big Bang Theory where one of the characters decided it was too dangerous to his health to leave his apartment. Since he had to work, he assembled a “virtual presence” that scooted around on wheels and had a huge monitor screen showing his face. As soon as Luann pulled out her phone I thought of that.

And how’s this supposed to work when the “only time” they can be online together is like 11:00 PM? um. yeah. As I said before, this whole arc is a mess.

Levi—oh, okay. That’s what I get for reading the posts backwards. I do think it’s a very common fictional plotline to have the nerd get the gorgeous girl, most likely because the author/filmmaker has memories of wishing it were that way in his own teen years. I’ve always given Greg major props for not going down that road, but being a bit more true to life to who teens would actually fall for (give or take Rosa, but maybe she loves him for his mind). Be that as it may, I don’t see female fans pushing for Gunther to win out in the Luann dating saga, just the guys…

Abstinence would reduce teen pregnancies if any of them actually used it. Teaching abstinence-only has been proven to increase teenage pregnancies, because the teens do not remain abstinent no matter what they’re taught, and they’re kept forcibly ignorant of anything else that might prevent pregnancy.

If you wanted to test to see if phonics was the proper way to teach reading would you hire teachers who had only learned whole language method and were openly derisive of phonics and then follow their results? Same thing with abstinence only sex ed. Also why does abstinence only education mean that you wouldn’t also teach about other methods of birth control. Anyone with half a brain knows that condoms / pills/ every other method has a failure rate a smart teacher would show the flaws in those methods and why they can’t be relied on.

Thank you for having Rosa at least entertain the prospect of her making the move. Even if it didn’t happen, it’s nice to see that she acknowledges it’s feasible.

Oddly enough, Bill Gates (when he was young) went on dates that were somewhat similar. Bill and his “date” would see a movie, each at their own theatre and at a showtime that fit their schedule – then the next day they would discuss the film over the phone while eating dinner….
