My wife purchased one of those “crossover” style purses, where the strap crossed your body and hung on the opposite shoulder. I commented that it seemed much too small for all the junk she carried in the other one. She replied, “I’m just putting things in it I really need.”Two days later, she was back to the original saddlebag, and when asked why, she said that the strap messed her hair while taking it off to get into the car.
The one time I asked my husband to carry/watch my purse, he set it down and took his eyes off it in a store! By the pure luck, it was still sitting there when I saw he had stepped away to look at something else! NEVER AGAIN.
I haven’t carried a purse in YEARS. I keep “stuff” in my truck (ie, comb, checkbook, aspirin, tissue …) and carry only the absolute essentials on me: Cell phone, wallet, keys. (Pockets are your friend, ladies.) Sometimes I don’t even carry the wallet, just tuck the debit card or cash in my pocket. Keys on my belt loop. Guess what else I left behind on my way to freedom? Caring what anyone thinks of me.
I carry a purse as a convenient place for money, credit cards and lipstick. That’s about it. I have never understood this thing of carrying what is practically a suitcase unless you’re on an airplane. I know women who take an extra large purse just so they can use carry on instead of checking luggage.
I used to be one of those “suitcase purse” kind of women but I’ve finally gotten over the want or “need” to lug those heavy things around any-more. Now, I’ve pretty much got it down to a small crossover body bag just big enough to carry my phone, keys, credit card, money, sunglasses, compact, and lipstick for quick trips somewhere and a bigger, but more normal-sized, purse for longer trips when I need to carry more things in it (like my Kindle). It’s so much nicer finally being free from having to haul around such a big, heavy purse full of nothing but a lot of really useless junk anymore! ;-)

Hi, rgcviper! :-)
lightenup: Happy 19th anniversary to you and your lucky hubby today! :-)

Hello and Happy Tuesday, fellow Cathy fans. Hope everyone has/had a really nice day today! :-)
Happy Anniversary, lightenup and thank you, Mom for letting us know!! Small crossover bag is enough for me and if I’m going to be walking, I use a fanny pack that holds my wallet and phone. I wrecked my shoulder carrying a heavy bag full of books when I was young and in college. The shoulder is a good reminder to never do it again.

So just who is forcing women to haul around those 200 pounds bags of stuff they don’t need?
