When I was pregnant with my first, sucralose (Splenda) was just becoming a big thing. There was a fruit-flavored water drink that I liked that had Splenda. I knew that it was recommended that one not have artificial sweeteners while pregnant, but since “Splenda is made with real sugar”, I wasn’t sure about it. I called “Ask-A-Nurse” and the lovely lady offered to do some research for me. She sent me a package of her research…and I haven’t touched ANY artificial sweetener since.

Aspartame is totally harmless. It’s just two amino acids stuck together. People just love to worry.

This is why I prefer to eat alone so often. I’ve had people say they think it’s sad to eat alone, but I like to enjoy my food without anyone pointing out why it’s going to kill me. I’ve had to listen to that too many times, along with the calorie counting and the indecision (What are you going to have? I don’t know, what are you going to have?) and the precise splitting of the tab and how much to tip. Before I go out to eat with family, I lay down my requests for not arguing about any of the above and everyone just enjoying themselves, but it doesn’t help. And then there’s the women at work, where all of the above almost always happened.

Health nuts are going to feel awfully stupid one day, lying in a hospital bed, dying of absolutely nothing. I’d rather just live my life and enjoy it.

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure? Or something like that …

Considering all the extra stuff I cannot even pronounce in a lot of our food, I think we should be worrying about more than just aspartame.
Happy Sunday everyone and happy long weekend for those who get tomorrow off for the Civic Holiday (just some provinces in Canada I think).

According to most who study breast cancer, aspertame is a carcinogen…and as a survivor, I don’t touch it anymore.
