Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for March 24, 2013
Transcript:
Luann: "Look, Shannon- Brad's going out with Toni. See how easy guys have it? Toss on jeans, maybe comb their hair-done" Brad: "Let me educate you on a guy's date prep, Luann" Brad: "First, we gotta pick the activity: Casual (coffee), lively (paintball), artsy (Foreign film) or classy (fancy dinner). Next, grooming: Last-minute shower? Shave? Cologne? Hair gel?" Brad: "Then pick a look: An Adam Sandler tee and flannel? A Ryan Reynolds sweater? A Tom Cruise leather jacket? A George Clooney sport coat??" Brad: "Ok, what do you think?" Shannon: "I think you look like Brad!" Luann: "So did he do is very wrong or exactly right?"

Okay, I thought Brad DeGroot was almost looking like Fred Rogers (1928-2003) reincarnated in that ensemble.
ILikeMeSomeComics almost 12 years ago
Come on, Brad looks good! It’s nice he makes an effort for Toni!
leenamielke almost 12 years ago
Shannon did do it right! She said ‘Brad’ instead of ‘Bwad’!
kenhense almost 12 years ago
Brad considered a Foreign Film as one of the date options?? Wow that’s a stretch. I’m not sure Toni would have the patience for a Foreign Film either. Now Paintball – There’s a date for those two. Don’t get me wrong – there are some Foreign Films I love. But don’t look for Brad, Toni, TJ, or (bless her heart) LUANN – at the art house.
emjaycee almost 12 years ago
He is himself. That’s what I life to see in a date, despite the outer trappings (although bowling night with me in a gown and him in a tux, might be odd. Then again, might be fun to shake-up everyone else’s evening. Hmmmmmmmm.
barbarasbrute almost 12 years ago
It’s looking more and more like ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY.

Hi Greg,
how do yo cope with this bunch of whining sissies?
I thought this is a COMIC?
kenhense almost 12 years ago
Yes – Do work out of this…
svetlana17 almost 12 years ago
I think I’ve finally figured out why all of you middle-aged men read this strip — you are still trying to figure out how to get a woman to pay attention to you! Are any of you married? Have children of your own for whom you take responsibility? Have you had a relationship that lasted more than a week? You are all still mentally in high school and have gotten so bitter from your failures with women that you take it out on a COMIC STRIP! Grow up.
kfccanada almost 12 years ago
Donny…FYI women are definitely different in their approach to money than are men. Let’s face it, if women acted the very same way as men, they wouldn’t have any sex appeal at all and men would complain that they are far to masculine to date. You threw in quite a few heavy prejudices against them, too. You need to accept the fact that there are women of all types out there and the right one for you just may not want to jump through all the hoops you’ve set up in your mind with which to judge her. Perhaps the problem isn’t with the manner in which a woman treats you…it’s actually the manner in which you treat her.
I don’t know how old you are but you sound either far to young to date or far too old to appreciate the right woman when she appears in front of you. I don’t know why you keep emphasizing ‘white girlie’ but I do know it sounds really offensive. You have a chip on your shoulder the size of a boulder and, IMHO, it may help to talk to someone who can give you some pointers in understanding women and their foibles. In the meantime, if you try another date…. A few pointers : show up on time, dress up for the type of evening you promised her, smile and be interested in what she is saying, don’t ogle other women while with her, don’t pressure her for ‘favours’ and reach for the cheque even before it is dropped on the table.

Hi Svetlana,
bulls eye! I can’t thank you enough!
blunebottle almost 12 years ago
Holy smokes! Some of you guys talk too much (Donny). I don’t have time to read that much.Just a little comment: Luann seems to be bonding well with the rug rat and Shannon has been showing a little more calmness, lately. There’s hope for her yet!
oldcomicsfan almost 12 years ago
What may be more disturbing, is the fact that there seem to be a lot of grown men following this strip….about teenage girl. Think about it.
Sisyphos almost 12 years ago
I think Luann somewhat secretly admires her big brother nowadays. We know that Shannon adores him. And the guy has Toni for a girl friend. This all sounds way too good. Is some nasty karma in store for Brad?
Schrat almost 12 years ago
Hi Mercedes,
to watch a brother get dressed – at least in the last stage – is quite normal. Luann has a right to be proud of her brother.
If anything is gross, it’s your mind!
jhar almost 12 years ago
I’m just amazed that Shannon called him “Brad” instead of “Bwad”.
Schrat almost 12 years ago
Hi jhar,
I imagine that she meant that Bawd DeGroot looks like Brad Pitt. It’s a kind of pun.
Finally we are back to the comic and left the self-pity and self- disgust behind us!
Thank you, everyone!
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
Well, I know that they pay attention to my posts, particularly the drawings…. I am more than a little flattered by that! (Having one of my all-time fave cartoonists putting up my “fan art” on his official page is quite an honour! :) )
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
Speaking of judgemental, to those women who wonder why a bunch of middle aged men read this strip, has it ever occurred to you, that the strip is generally well written, funny and entertaining? Not to mention how we ALL get a kick out of trying to get into the character’s heads and guess what might happen next.
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
PS. Donny’s comments on women are Donny’s own opinions and do not reflect those of myself, the other men who post here, management, or any other human, of the male persuasion! :p
dieseldude almost 12 years ago
Donny, you must of had something else to do instead of writing this novel, on sunday morning. just saying.
Dedge almost 12 years ago
How come she didn’t say Bwad?
Schrat almost 12 years ago
Beam me up Scotty!
I wonder how such an intelligent, well written, funny, clean, healthy and sane comic became the meeting point for all these mentally and socially deficient freaks.
I am sorry for all these, who only want to have fun with Luann, her family and her friends, by laughing with them, share their misery with them, and by trying to figure out their thinking and their next moves.
I certainly will continue to read this strip but I never again will cast a glance at the comments.
Have fun!

I couldn’t get through some of the comments (donny wlallace) because they were one hella long rant. I’m sorry some guys feel like that, but then again, some guys got issues. They need to works on ’em. Mazel tov.

After reading all the old archived comics, today’s Brad is actually way cute.
pixel_pusher almost 12 years ago
Wow, today’s strip is sure bringing out the Butthurt Dwellers.

Misogynist any?

Men with whiskers . . . ‘Neath their noses . . . Ought to kiss . . .Like eskimoses-Burma Shave-Circa 1960. -And I’m pretty sure Brylcreem commercials ran into the 60’s.
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
If Brad did not have the “DeGroot nose”, he would be a good looking guy. ^^Actually, it’s not the Degroot nose, as it comes from the Mother’s side… the Degroot nose looks more like a pickle!
ooptheman almost 12 years ago
ZZzzzzzzzzzzzz, didn’t think I would make it this far. I’m past middle age, and still enjoy comics, good and bad. zzzzzzzzzzz

Is Brad being featured because it’s Bachelor Day?
sarafaye almost 12 years ago
Brad is looking very good today.
sarafaye almost 12 years ago
As for the grown up men who get a little silly about the strip, I figure they’re probably behaving much the same way as grown up women (including me) who get silly about Twilight. It isn’t that we expect to draw these young, fictional characters into our world, it’s that we enjoy living as teenagers in their world for a little while. Obviously I can’t actually speak for the guys, but this is why they don’t seem out of place to me. (With the exception of when they talk about students and teachers. That bugs me.)

Personally, I just like Sara’s avatar. Young Buffy for the win :)

Actually, it looks a little like he’s wearing something of each of them.

Nice to finally see growth in Shannon. “Bwad” is annoying.
