Guy: Ever since I first began my work on NANCY back in 1995, I've been receiving letters asking about Nancy's pal, SLUGGO! "Who takes care of him?" "How does he survive?" "Why hasn't Fritzi adopted him?" This next story will answer these questions! Aunt Fritzi: It's about TIME you told THIS STORY! Guy: Fritzi---You're NOT in the story yet! Phil: How about PHIL? This story DOES begin with PHIL...Right? Guy: C'mon, you two! Can you at least help me clean up the mail so we can start? Caption: STORY STARTS TOMORROW!

I can’t help but wonder if Jerry Scott got these questions when he did the strip. In fact did Scott ever use Aunt Fritzi? See I grew up in the 80s so I remember that version of “Nancy” fairly well.

Well, what do you know… 4th wall broken. OK, yeah, these are old but good questions. I wonder if it’ll be a cop-out. Like he’s got a benefactor somewhere, parental or otherwise, that provides JUST enough to allow Sluggo to live in squalor. Should be interesting. And I can only assume Fritzi hasn’t adopted Sluggo because she does not want to. It would be an interesting dynamic, though.

Way to go Guy! Be sure to show a lot of Aunt Fritzi!

Sluggo’s character begs many questions. e.g., how can a child live alone in a house? And it seems his house is in the same neighborhood as Nancy’s yet should be condemned for countless code violations. Obviously, the local authorities somehow overlook some rather glaring problems. So the “rest of the story” [a la Paul Harvey] should be quite enlightening to say the least.

You draw yourself very young. In panel 2 you look about 14 with a paste on beard.

We’re going to have some fun! I love these characters and glad you all care so much about them! As far as drawing myself young……I didn’t think I did! I’m old as dirt…..I just happen to have hair. So far.

Better be careful, the people at Doonesbury will be over this in the next couple of days. They think that they are the only ones who can go beyond the wall.

Hey, calimaghazi, what does Fritzi know about the COVER-UP, or are you just interested in her bazongas?
Wiseguy70005 almost 12 years ago
The strip is called “Nancy” not “Fritzi.” Show Fritzi when relevant.

Love it, Guy! As an avid reader of comic books (my original introduction to Nancy and company) when I was probably about Sluggo’s age, for some reason, I was content to know that Sluggo lived by himself in some house somewhere, with no parents. And he seemed happy, so I never wondered what the deal was. The stories were fun and entertaining enough and I was always totally absorbed in them no matter how many times I read them. Now, so many years later, I’m once again excited and looking forward to learning something new about the Nancy gang! (And by the way, nice job in bring back Phil Fumble. What a memory-jogger THAT was!) Best, Radio George
