The guy in green is “Paw” (maybe Polly behind him?) from Polly and her Pals— one of the best strips ever, by Cliff Sterrett. The little boy in the newsboy cap is Little Jimmy, created by James Swinnerton. Could be Tailspin Tommy at upper right?
I thought that was Felix the Cat, but Susan said it’s Beans the Cat. I don’t remember Beans the Cat. Who is the guy in the top hat? I recognize him but can’t come up with his name? And who is the girl in pink?
Barney Google, the guy in the top hat. Ignatz is there, but not Krazy so far as I can tell. Baron Bean, I think, in the down left corner. Behind Jimmy may be one of the little bears.
And, no, not all of the old great comics. They can’t fit in that little space, but Scancarelli sure packed in a lot. I’m sure we’ll see more.
The only one I recognize is Spark Plug, Barney Google’s horse. I must not be as old as you guys. Is the cat on the roof Krazy Kat? P.S.- I’m not sure the guy in the top hat is Barney Google.
It sure does look like Beans, but Beans was a minor animated character (though of some importance because he was introduced in the same cartoon as Porky Pig), not a strip character at all. Seeing that the figure is centered between Mrs. Kwakk Wakk and Ignatz Mouse, I think it’s meant to be Krazy Kat.
I think Scancarelli should do a series of 2 or 3 panels where Walt is talking to each one a panel a piece so we get to see all of the old ones, mentioned by their names so we know who they all are. There are some there older than me I never got to see. “grins”
Oh boy! Now I can see why Jim held back with Joel and Rufus for weeks. He was getting ready to pull out all stops with fire works display. Great Jim. We still love you!
Dang, I’ve had my nose buried in comic strip history for years and I don’t recognize a bunch of these guys. This is my favorite type of stuff Scancarelli does with this strip.
I really miss the comics in the newspaper. But I love how we can grab and enlarge the images now and truly see all the detail. Thanks Jim, for such great work!
Had to look up the sign post notary sojack and 1506 nix nix reference on the sign post..The cartoon artist Smokey Stover was wayyyy..wayyyy..before my time..

I recognize so many but can no longer put names to the characters. Good to see Toonerville Trolley still running.

I’m half expecting the 1921 Walt Wallet to appear the moment super-centenarian Walt crosses the threshold.
But don’t worry, Walt. They’ll remember you in Comics Land forever.

I recognize Happy Hooligan (the guy with the bean can on his head). Ignatz the Mouse is on the roof.

I hope there’s more recent arrivals in there, such as Hobbes, Cathy and Opus.

The little girl in pink could be Little Mary Mix Up 1917-1957 by Brinkerhoff or Little Miss Muffet 1935-1956 by Cory.

Is the pig in front of the truck from Lil Abner?Salomey? They treated her like family, better than a pet.
