Jimmy Johnson just did in one strip what John Zakour has never been able to do in 10 years.

Hahahahaha! Love the “Bewitched” reference. This was truely humorous innuendo today! Great strip!

For those, like me, who didn’t immediately get the “Abner & Gladys” reference:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladys_Kravitz

Thank you for today’s strip, Jimmy. I think of George and Alice often and the wonderful roles they played outside of Bewitched.

Cool, it’s even Gladys version 1, my favorite!

They’ve probably witnessed A & J’s various “outdoor escapades” over the years.

Thomas Stearns Eliot is considered a major poet of the 20th century.-—April is the cruelest month, breedingLilacs out of the dead land, mixingMemory and desire, stirringDull roots with spring rain.(from “The Waste Land”)

Gladys, Abner might respond a bit more quickly if rather than screaming “ABNER!”, you screamed “ABNER THAT WOMAN NEXT DOOR IS SUNBATHING NAKED AGAIN!”, as in the strip a few weeks ago.

Am I the only one old enough to remember Bewitched?
QuietStorm27 over 11 years ago
April is definitely cruel in Ohio. It is currently 30 degrees.

Great caricatures, especially of Abner.

April is the cruelest month: it holds out promise (as Janis notes) but then slams you with reality – floods, tornados, pollen counts, the Cubs start losing, assassinations, the Titanic, The Boston Marathon Bombing, ad infinitum (well, metaphorically speaking) I have a very long list if anyone is interested.

Gladys must think Janis has been reading Fifty Shades of Gray….

John Zakour is one half of the team who publish the daily web comic “Working Daze” (on GoComics). They often pay tribute to other comic strip characters and/or TV personalities such as Stephen Colbert. Worth a visit! :-)

Love the reference to Bewitched! Been watching reruns of Bewitched since it was on Nick at Nite in the 90’s. Laugh every time Gladys yelled for her husband Abner in the show.

“Gladys, have you been taking those pills again?”

@Adrian SnareYou’re confusing TS Elliot with George Eliot, aka Mary Anne Evans, a novelist. TS wrote the line Jimmy used, as you said. Just to add to the confusion, in the poem the line is from, “The Wasteland”, the speaker of the poem refers to themselves as “Marie.”

The writers, of course.

When I was a kid in the late 60s, early 70s, most channels wouldn’t show the black and white reruns so I didn’t see the early seasons of Bewitched, Get Smart, the Beverly Hillbillies, (and I think, Gilligan’s Island) until a decade or two later.I may have just forgotten them, but I feel I was introduced to Gladys just a few weeks ago when my TiVo thought I’d be interested in watching a few Bewitched episodes.I didn’t have enough exposure though to recognize them today. So thanks, folks.

This reminds me of a great tangent from “Family Guy” featuing the Kravitz’s. Obviously, I can’t describe it here.

Would that we all had Abner and Gladys living next door. It would make life so much more interesting!
