You got me……I didn’t get it, either.

Melba toast has been around for over 100 years.

It was invented at the Hotel Savoy in LONDON (which is in England, I believe) by Auguste Escoffier, who was French, in honor of Dame Nellie Melba, who was Australian.

Hardly some newfangled American thing.

I used to eat Melba toast with a big dab of butter and a slice of chedder cheese.

Looks like rusk to me…

Now isn’t that just peachy?!

The only place I’ve ever seen Melba Toast is in a bread basket along with crackers and bread sticks in my favorite restaurant.

It doesn’t translate the other way, any better. That loaf of bread I bought in Scotland, called a Crusty Bloomer……..

Yikes! “Crusty Bloomer” sounds like a bad case of acne.

Such a brave little toaster!

I still have one just like this — cloth cord & all — a genuine antique.

If you’re not careful, Melba, you’ll be toast.

Melba toast is very good for “upset” tummies. I still can’t eat it unless I’m sick, due to association!

So….we have a little cracker toaster?

I’m American, and I have never heard of Melba toast.
