Had my 50th last Spring. Didn’t go. Probably would have brought AK-47 with extra magazines. Does that sound like I didn’t enjoy high school?

Then again, by fifty years the attrition rate will have begun to accelerate, so there’s always the chance that somebody you despised will no longer be attending!

If memory serves, “maroons” comes from a Bugs Bunny cartoon of yore. “What a maroon!”

Zonk and Zip will be in Colorado soon. Many adventures await there, no time to go back. Seattle is a wonderful place, and too far away to go to a HS reunion unless super motivated. The guy with the white hair could just go get some Just For Men hair product and be good as new, so no excuse for him. BD, well, I guess he doesn’t want to be taken advantage of just because he still lives so close, so he is making a stand by not going even though he is only a mile away.

My 50th will be in two years. I haven’t been to one since my 20th. I didn’t have much of a high school career to celebrate.

Unless you were a wheel in high school (or college,) don’t bother to go to a class reunion. I did go to my rural high school’s 20th anniversary reunion (graduating class size: 101.) It was illuminating and a bit sad. Somewhat surprisingly, about 1/2 of the class showed. The old cliques quickly reformed and a lot of good – and not-so-good – memories resurfaced. One thing I did notice is that those who moved after graduation generally did better than those who stayed. (Of course, it’s probably not a representative sampling; if you moved and didn’t “make it” you perhaps wouldn’t be too motivated to travel to a reunion.)`I did get one grim satisfaction observing the BMOC of my class (football captain, got all the girls, something of a verbal bully, etc.) discretely asking everyone about leads for jobs. (I suppose personality alone can only carry you so far in life.) It was a pleasant enough evening, but not really worth the 400 miles round trip my wife and I drove; I’m not going to another.`Note to the freaks/geeks in high school: Just hang in there. People really don’t change, but environments do. You’ll not be in your HS hell-hole much longer, and then you’ll have the opportunity to go someplace where what are flaws in HS can become assets. Trust me on this: living well is the best revenge.

My 50th college reunion is coming up later this month and, after giving it some thought, I can’t see dragging myself (and my wife) 1000+ km to a “photo-op”. I’d rather make a donation to the college fund.

Gee! Somebody deleted my first comment to John Pike about his fishing for trolls. That was the first use of the word maroons here today. I wonder why anybody could be so upset about a little good natured kidding around? I guess some people are so full of themselves, that they can’t see the humor in anything.

And in that first, now deleted (by whom?) comment, I didn’t use anybodies names, nor intend to make any reference to any specific person, or persons, that commen here and yet at least one person had to immediately start making personal attacks against me. All that for my making a humorous and generic observation about trolls, in general.

I didn’t know that. I thought it was just a BB mangling of “moron”. Thanks for the intersting factoid.

We have a different view on reunions than a lot of the above commenters. My husband’s 60th St. Pete High School reunion was last year, and mine is coming up in July. We really enjoy seeing the old duffers again. My husband made a “best friend” several years ago. (A card-carrying geek, he makes elaborate illustrated name tags and memory books for both classes.) I’m letting a classmate from Bradenton stay at our place so she can come. In each class, a dedicated volunteer serves as a clearing house for communication and reports on illnesses, deaths, etc. I could go on and on (and often have, of course), but as we grow older our gatherings seem more precious to us.

‘A tradition in political philosophy that emphasizes individualism, equality, and freedom. ’.Or the right-wing trolls would be if they believed in any of that stuff. They may say they do, but deep down inside it scares them. That’s why they all march in lock-step whichever way they are told by their authority figures..Hence the phrase “Liberals fall in love; conservatives fall in line.” So they tend to vote the same way, support the same “news” channel, buy the current best-seller that supports their positions and in general get more power than the liberals, who are fragmented.

I’d go to my 40th, but I’m afraid Lindsey Graham would still probably figure out who I am, elephants have long memories. Besides, it’s a long way to Carolina a long way to go.
