GAAAHHH! Itâs entertainment, not history, folks. âŠEnjoy it for what it is. Or donât. Roy may be disappointed in the story, but heâs still going to see the movie again. He, at least, has accepted the fact that he didnât write the story line. âŠWhen YOU write the story line, then you can take the story anywhere you want to go. Up until then, stop whining that JJ Abrams isnât true to the Trek you are used to viewing.
All right, letâs put aside for the moment that this isnât Star Trek, but something completely different that has the name âStar Trekâ on it. Looking at them just as movies that are supposed to be entertaining, well, they arenât. Bad writing, lukewarm acting, and the usual Hollywood bombastic direction have squeezed out nearly everything that I consider entertaining about a high-tech sci-fi movie.
I like to think of it as a creative bankruptcy. They want to sell you familiar characters and settings, but they donât want to be held to any of the RULES of those characters and settings. Thus they use the oldest and weakest of comic book plot devices to create an alternate timeline and voila, you are paying to see a movie called Star Trek that isnât Star Trek. Fun!

Well, maybe not âpityâ and definitely not derision but I agree that they do risk really missing out!
