GAAAHHH! It’s entertainment, not history, folks. …Enjoy it for what it is. Or don’t. Roy may be disappointed in the story, but he’s still going to see the movie again. He, at least, has accepted the fact that he didn’t write the story line. …When YOU write the story line, then you can take the story anywhere you want to go. Up until then, stop whining that JJ Abrams isn’t true to the Trek you are used to viewing.
All right, let’s put aside for the moment that this isn’t Star Trek, but something completely different that has the name “Star Trek” on it. Looking at them just as movies that are supposed to be entertaining, well, they aren’t. Bad writing, lukewarm acting, and the usual Hollywood bombastic direction have squeezed out nearly everything that I consider entertaining about a high-tech sci-fi movie.
I like to think of it as a creative bankruptcy. They want to sell you familiar characters and settings, but they don’t want to be held to any of the RULES of those characters and settings. Thus they use the oldest and weakest of comic book plot devices to create an alternate timeline and voila, you are paying to see a movie called Star Trek that isn’t Star Trek. Fun!

Well, maybe not ‘pity’ and definitely not derision but I agree that they do risk really missing out!

As a concept, interesting, Captain…but as a cheap way to change the facts it stinks.

You’d think detractors would understand “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations”.
