Bloom County was really something back in its day. I carried a panel from it in my wallet for many years. Nicely done.

It’s a shame it wasn’t Marvel Comics’ Matt Murdock. Would he really believe he’s representing some animals, a baby and a cartoonist?

I understand that Bill the Cat is a successful serial killer, and Opus is still addicted to heroin…….so Steve has probably had a lot of courtroom time in the criminal courts.

Steve Dallas got somebody out of jail??? Oh, on bail. If history is any kind of a precedent, they’ll be back in there in no time.

Unexpected, but delightful! Bloom County (“classics”) is one of the first strips I read here at GoComics each night, so Steve Dallas is still fresh in my mind. He is such a sleaze-ball that I am surprised that even a PBS judge would accept him as a poster of bail. But we had to get the gang out somehow, or be stuck with the wit and wisdom of Goat!

Berke Breathed quit Bloom County pretty much while he was ahead. Most of of the strip has aged well, but some was pretty topical and became dated. Steve Dallas, however, is clearly eternal.

Also, Berke Breathed once gave a shout-out to my (then) 6-or-7 year-old son in a Sunday panel – and sent him an Opus T-shirt. So yay for Steve Dallas, and yay for Steph recognizing a great strip!

Does Bill The Cat appear next? Thhwwp?

Steve Dallas has dance moves like Michael Jackson and lyrics like Ozzy Osborne.

He’s probably wealthy from selling lawyers.com in the IPO, and bailing out Steph as a personal favor.

My favorite Bloom County: The band is practicing when Bill the Cat blows all the electronics (almost literally) by sticking his tongue in a socket. Steve: “Oh for crying out loud. He’s not DEAD again, is he?”

The “again” makes the whole joke.

Bloom County was a favorite of mine years ago. I’ve still got some of the collections, and they don’t wear that badly. Similar to PBS in a lot of ways, although Breathed had more topical humor.

This is at least the second appearance of a Bloom County character in Pearls Before Swine. I remember Opus appeared in a previous strip. I can’t remember whether Bill has or not.

People are entitled to like Bloom County or not, but certainly Pastis is a fan. And I see Bloom County’s influence on Pearls quite often.

Most importantly, a pre-abduction Steve Dallas. Or post-recovery.

It’s so bizarre that someone can’t say “not my cup of tea” about something without people responding in some nasty way. Alexikakos just expressed his personal disinclination in a polite way — after helpfully providing a link, even. He didn’t cast aspersions on Breathed, nor did he insult those of us who do like Bloom County, he just said he didn’t personally care for it.

People don’t react that way in real life, to someone’s face (Corzak included, I’m sure). I just enjoyed some tiramisu — if my lunch companion says “I don’t really care for tiramisu,” I certainly would never say “well then I don’t care for you, leave the table!!”

Honestly. The internet would be a much better place if more people could refrain from insult or attack when expressing a personal preference. I don’t happen to agree with you about Bloom County, Alexikakos, but I do appreciate your manners.

Love it. For those of us that read Bloom County in the day, like we now read Pearls now, Thank You. I have always thought there was a little of Opus in Pig, now I’m more sure.

A blast from the past! I have all the Bloom County books and recognized Steve Dallas right away … made me smile. As for that ratty crew in the slammer? Well, they might be better off in jail than being represented by Steve! Love Pearls! Love Breathed … still have a little stuffed Opus.

I’m all for Opus showing up, but it’s okay if you don’t bring Bill the Cat in, Stephen, not one of my favorite characters.

“Bloom County” was my all time favorite strip. This one comic has now elevated “Pearls Before Swine” to the same level. Awesome job !
