Janis: Do we have that problem? A slight disconnect between action and dialogue?
Arlo: No, we try to write tight here at "Arlo and Janis"!
Janis: That's good!
Arlo: Not necessarily...
Arlo: We tend to get a lot of what's known in the trade as "talking heads."

Sometimes it’s better if they just hum and play around a bit….

I’m surprised Arlo didn’t mentioned ’Talking heads cuts production costs."
But JJ needs to be efficient, he’s not as young as he used to be.

No problem with talking heads. A&J is one of the few unbiased and literate comics published Arlo’s ruminations and reflections mirror those of many of us. Philosophy, in the comics pages, is rarely well-done. Sometimes BC, but mostly only in defunct strips – Bloom County, Boondocks, Calvin & Hobbes.

Jim Pallas said; “Ya gotta love copy and paste.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~You noticed that too? All panels are identical save for the mouth movements. Sorta like finding the 6 differences in Slylock Fox !!

A week of political philosphy followed by existential thoughts on comics this week. Not entertaining in the least. Last week was timely, given the holiday. The addition of the subject matter this week makes me want to make this the last daily comic in my list. In fact — tomorrow it will be.

Guys, keep going. I do love your strip. I hits home with main stream American families. I could not have said it any better
unca jim over 11 years ago
Yes, he did. One single panel drawn once with ‘mouth movements’ omitted and drawn in in sequential panels. I see a lot of other strips do this ‘on the cheap’..

Yada yada yada… who cares about the deep discussion? My focus was on Janis’ boob resting on her arm in every panel. That was not random. WTG JJ!

You gotta love those who want to dump you when you disagree. You know, those folks who defend freedom of speech as long as it agrees with THEIR way of thinking? I’m not going anywhere. It’s just that this hit a boring stretch and I read everything else first.
