The biggest problem – not just with Americans, but world wide – is we have forgotten to laugh at ourselves. It’s easy to laugh at others but to truly live, we have to be able to laugh at our own foibles. A little self-deprecation would go a long way !
Sometimes I’ll remember something I did years and years ago, something that seemed at the time incredibly stupid and embarrassing. Time has soothed its sting. And I laugh out loud that I choked on the memory for so long, and realize probably nobody remembers it but me. And with that, I have given it a virtual Heimlich Maneuver (which is a copyrighted phrase, by the way). Life is absurd, and I’ve done my fair part in contributing to its absurdity.
I completely agree Earl!!! I have a wonderful friend that can imitate me to a tee…I laugh so hard I literally can’t breathe. I try to teach my daughter to laugh at herself…it’s the best medicine.
remember going through the drive-through with a car load of your friends in either high school or college and laughing too hard to order? well after many years we have all retired, and last night we tried to do the drive through at McD’s and all totally lost it – we ordered 38 $.49 cheeseburgers…..

Aha! Now I know why I do so many stupid things. Laughter is therapeutic. I didn’t do stupid things I’d have died from stress years ago.
