Calvin, that was just rude and disrespectful. You don’t get to make that kind of judgment about your parents just because they won’t let you do anything and everything that you want whenever you want to. Frankly, I’m surprised that Dad only sent you to your room.

That’s the joy of being the oldest child, parents makes all the mistakes on you and the younger children get to flourish on the parents experience later in life. lol

You have to pass tests, get a license and insurance to drive a car, but any two idiots can raise a child without any prior preparation.Is this REALLY a good idea?

He has a point, tho’ perhaps his timing is a bit off. Parents probably should be licensed. BUT: who will design, administer and evaluate the tests????

Calvin, be careful. Your dad (and mom) will want you to sign the same form, because the years of therapy you will cause them. Not to mention the neighbors (especially after your snowmen appear).

I wish the producers of Dr. Phil made the parents sign those before appearing on the show.

Yep, the only people who should be allowed to have children are those who already have children. This rule would solve a lot of problems.

My husband and I were just speaking about this subject the other day. Anyone can just have a baby… but there are so many things people have to get training, a license, a lawyer, a witness or notary for. But then again, how would training and licensing people for parenthood be managed…

What kind of parent will Calvin be? We all make mistakes but we try or should try to be the best we can be and love our children. Schmaltzy huh? Kids should try to be better children too!

The only preparation most, if not all, parents have before having children is sex!

Kids can be a pain, but it’s the only way to get grandkids!(Grandkids are grand because they are not underfoot 24/7.)

First kid is your practice one. You do much better with all the rest.

I had a cousin who was a child when these comics were new. She learned a lot from Calvin and pulled this on her Dad, as well as frequent Dad Polls.Luckily my Uncle had a great sense of humor and played along.Sadly she was killed at 21 yo and he died a couple years later.

Sorry, Calvin. But that’s how it is.

This is very true. So many people have had children when they shouldn’t .They don’t know how to raise them, so then those kids grow up to make the same mistakes their parents did. A vicious cycle…

For the people who think Calvin is being rude, consider how amazing it would be for a child Calvin’s age to put a letter like that together. Most high school graduates aren’t that eloquent. Calvin’s dad should be floored and looking into getting Calvin in the gifted writers class. :)

I have boys. The last one when I was almost forty. Easier on him than the rest. Don’t know if I was smarter or just tired! Not happy to be pregnant at that age with the oldest in his first year of college, but this son is the one who invites me on vacation with him and his family. Have gone with them to Maui, three times to Disney world, universal studios and this week to St. Louis for the World Series. Left out number of sons.5

My Mom and her sisters always complained about their mother’s parenting. I think my Mother’s basic idea of parenting was to think of what he mother would do and do the opposite. The way I figure it Grandma could not have done everything wrong as she raised 3 pretty terrific ladies.
