Quill: "While you were gone, I got a call from Melodee Manezon - from drama camp?" Luann: "Yeah. What'd she want?" Quill: "Well, she's a drama pro here at Moony Uni. She hired me to help with her holiday show" Luann: "Wait - you'll spend the break working for her? What about -" Quill: "My job here?" Luann: "NO! US!"

Who’s gonna listen to Luann blabbering?? Oh NO! (A little humor here!)
seyleigh almost 11 years ago
Quill should do what he wants and what is best for him, regardless of Luann’s opinion.
Yeesh girl, you guys are barely an “us”. You do not have a ring, you two do not live together, and you haven’t admitted to being in love with each other. Relax, you guys were a long distance couple before, you can be one again. And as long as Moony Uni isn’t too far away, you two can still visit on weekends or during the week (depending on when Manezon needs help.)

Quill is a PILL, Luann.

Oh, he’ll be working for TJ… The drama camp gig is a “work for experience” — it doesn’t PAY any MONEY…

For Luann, every situation is an “I” test. Which probably makes her a fairly typical 17-18 year old.

Perhaps Quill can persuade Ms Melodee to give Luann a part in the show?
DaJellyBelly almost 11 years ago
Plus, Quill is better suited working in the theater than on TJ’s lunch wagon.

I think that’s a reasonable suggestion. Why don’t the two of them get Luann in the show. She is much better at actingthan the Terrible T. Now. Do you suppose the short one is onceagain helping Tiff out with running interference for her? Elwood is knee deep in movieindustry.

Ms. Manezon is drama prof at Moony Uni “here,” so presumably Quill won’t be far away, for gosh sakes, Luann. Don’t panic just because you’ll not have every minute of break time with the Aussie!

“Hired” to work on the holiday show? For pay? Yet another visa violation. Don’t fuss so much about your relationship with Quill not being close enough now, Luann – it’ll be a lot less close, once Quill is deported.
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace almost 11 years ago
Note to all looking for jobs:.Do every job you do ro the best of your ability and any who saw your performance are more likely to hire you for any future jobs they may have available..Do it poorly and they are less likely..Don’t do it at all and they are even less likely..Let them know in person you are seeking and they are more likely to consider you than if they believe you are unavailable..Just a thought for those who might benefit

That drama camp woman was a real professor?? But she was a flake who took bribes! Quill, don’t work for a nutty professor!
imbaldeagle almost 11 years ago
Looks like this could be a rerun of Ann & Brad at WW. When MM doesn’t keep Quill by her side she may be asking him to do extracurricular duties – of course that may only involve the male actors. She may not want him to be too close to the females.

This cartoon based on teen age children base the author of this cartoon Greg does great job with his story lines.

Mrs. Hugeface didn’t take a bribe – the camp allows sponsored students. That policy is completely above-board, and she didn’t profit from it herself. But why is she hiring Quill, to do whatever he will be doing? Surely the school requires that hiring preferences be given to Moony Uni students.

If there had been no relationship between Quill and Luann, Quill wouldn’t even be in this comic. Evans was going to phase him out, but Karen convinced him to keep the character because so many readers were requesting that the relationship continue.-If the relationship is put on hold so Quill can concentrate on a variety of jobs, there’s really no further need to include him in the comic. -
This comic is supposed to be about Luann and her family and friends. How does an a foreign student who occassionally crosses her path in school get to be called either ‘family’ or ‘friend’. What kind of ‘friend’ says, ‘Oh, by the way, I’m going to be working at a university during the school break, when I’m not working at the food truck’?-I have completely lost interest in Quill as a character and I hope Luann gets to move on to other parts of her life now.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
I think that it’s always been that way, that it was split down the middle, when it comes to Quill… – To me, what keeps him around, has to do with those regular meetings he has with his new “writing consultants”… certain articles seem to point to that, as well…
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 11 years ago
“What about **us”??? Didn’t you even see that picture of me that I stuck on your bedside table in Gunther’s house?" Luann seems more committed to this relationship than Quill does.

I’m hoping that when Luann goes to Pitt CC she will meet some folks who are less annoying than a lot of her high school friends (e.g., Gunther) and who are not so vacuous as others of them (e.g., Quill).
Argy.Bargy2 almost 11 years ago
Luann moving on to a community college is a perfect opportunity for her to meet news people who might be interested in a more balanced life. By that, I mean a life that includes both relationships and careers. Since there are a lot of older students who attend community colleges (people already in the work force, looking for more opportunities in life through training), she might find both women who don’t think she is a waste of their time (like Bernice and Delta, apparently) and men who understand that advancing in life doesn’t mean just building their resumes. -It would be interesting to see Crystal at the community college. I’m sure Bernice and Delta will move on to some Ivy League schools somewhere, and will only return to Pitts for holiday breaks. If then.
ACTIVIST1234 almost 11 years ago
No. 100— AND No. 101. Amazing! Be sure to put it on your resume. Even better is to get the last word in for the day.*That said, I think they can all keep in touch on-line during the semester and in person during holidays (holidays & vacations taking up half the year).
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
I think that the point of all of this, isn’t “who is committed to whom?” but rather “whose lives are progrressing at a ddifferent pace?”… - Sometimes, one person isn’t finding post, school gigs, or having the same perceived success rate as others… i.e., finding work in your chosen career path, having colleges “fight” over your attractive entrsnce potential, etc… in other words, some people may feel like they’re at a standstill, while friends and others seem to be “taking off” in a figurative way, maybe literal….- That may be what Luann is going through, with not only Bern but Delta, Gunther, Quill… she may be coming to that realization…. Since Karen is a school dean, this may be the product of what she’s observed in her work, and is coming through in the strips…

Luann was mistaken yesterday when she said she has no goals. Being Quill’s love goddess is her goal, and Quill had better get with the program or she’ll send him packing back to Australia.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
That’s something that I love about reviews, if nothing else… can’t recall, but “the Hunger Games” just had one that fit greatly…
Argy.Bargy2 almost 11 years ago
There is nothing in the dialog of this comic that suggests that Quill will actually be in a play, only that he will be helping with a holiday show. For all you know, that could mean he’s writing publicity or recruiting actors, or creating scenery. -It’s not always about sharing someone with someone else. Sometimes, it’s about not having a person around, period, because they are so involved with projects that they have no time for anything else.-‘Her boyfriend of the moment must worship her at all times’ is just another way of saying ‘I really dislike this character’. Just like Seismic; can’t figure out why you two bother to read something when you find so little that’s acceptable about the viewpoint character.
Argy.Bargy2 almost 11 years ago
I think I’ll just keep my amateur status, then.

@Leviticus-I think the last panel of the comic is the most important. Quill is totally misunderstanding why Luann is worried; he thinks she’s concerned that he won’t have any time for his food truck job. And her response is ‘No! Us!", meaning, no, you won’t have any time for us.-But I think the underlying meaning is: there is no ‘us’ in Quill and Luann. She’s starting to realize that she’s interested in an ‘us’, but he isn’t. So I hope she’ll get a chance to just move on to community college, and start the next part of her life.- Who knows, maybe she’ll discover a career to love, instead of a man? But then you guys will find some other reason to criticize her, I guess….
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 11 years ago
As is shown in the first panel, Luann doesn’t especially care one way or the other that Quill is in contact with Melodee Manezone. It is when she learns that Quill has holiday plans that take him away from her that she becomes panic-ridden. This would be her reaction to anything that took Quill away, and not to the fact that it is Manezone who is doing it. If TJ were sending Quill to attend a fast-food cooking school in San Francisco, for instance, it would provoke the same outburst.
Caldonia almost 11 years ago
Well, I just hope that professor puts on a real play, assuming the play is featured at all. “A Christmas Carol” for example, rather than “George Kisses Martha 2: Electric Bugaloo.”
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 11 years ago
> Can’t speak for Seismic, but for me, I have never claimed to be a Quill fan>I find him boring. He is basically a non-person. Even his face is pretty much blank, as is his personality. His only contribution to the story line is to keep telling Luann how wonderful she is, on account of her inner beauty. A comic strip called “Quill” would be on my “ignore” list, because (as Gertrude Stein said of her home city of Oakland) “there is no there there.”
seyleigh almost 11 years ago
I think she thinks that their relationship is more serious than he does.
argy.bargy2, she has not stated that she is in love with Quill. He has not said or implied that he is love with her. They are both in high school. This is not a serious relationship, and therefore he does not put Luann’s desires over his own. Maybe one day he will, but he isn’t committed to anything but a possible entertainment career right now. And if you remember being 17, even THAT can change in an instant.
Luann also needs to find something outside of Quill to be passionate about. Be it volunteer work, a job, a hobby, or her friends. I think that is why most of the posters are mildly irritated by the way she is acting. She is also 17, and needs to figure out who she wants adult Luann to be, so 17-year old Luann should to try out new experiences. Maybe volunteering with disabled children, taking an art class just for fun, going on a road trip with her two best friends and not talk about boys the whole time, and maybe meeting a more relationship oriented guy in the process.
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 11 years ago
The play could have been a long time in production already. Manezone may just need some help with painting scenery, installing lighting, distributing advertising, organizing ticket sales, etc., that would require hiring some extra people at the last minute.>However, since this is “Luann”, it is entirely possible that she needs someone to fill in as Ebenezeer Scrooge, so Quill will have to learn the part overnight, since no professional understudy or Moony Uni drama student could possibly handle the assignment.
