Rosa: "Hey, girlfriends. You all look so serious" Luann: "We're talking about life after high school" Rosa: "Ah. My folks think I'm a Yale type. But I'm really a peace corps type" Luann: "So you're into the P.C., I'm going to the J.C. And Delta's going to D.C." Rosa: "Where are you going, Bernice?" Bernice: "W.C."

I absolutely cannot imagine Gunther’s joining the Peace Corps to follow Rosa. This romance dies with graduation.

Don’t most Peace Corps positions require a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience?
Maybe Gunther will go with Rosa to malaria infested places? Maybe Gunther will join the Coast Guard and pay for college that way? He needs to get out of Pittsville, and I’m not sure if he can afford a four-year. Any other ideas?

I pity Bernice’s future Moony roomie, should she have one!
Roommate: Do you want to go to the cafeteria with us before we go to the library?
Bernice: Snarketty snark snark!
Roommate: Okay….

My question is on Rosa, can you go to the Peace Corps before you graduate from college?

While I’m here and have some of the attention of random strangers, can you guys think of any non-four-year-college alternatives for new high-school grads?
I have two little cousins soon to graduate high school. They definitely don’t have good enough grades for a four-year or have the financial backing to go, and we are trying to find different options for them. One needs to get out of the area (his grandparents want to kick his mom out and don’t want her guilting him into taking care of her lazy butt). For the other it doesn’t matter too much if she stays or goes.
Their grandma keeps pushing the Coast Guard because they won’t get sent overseas and will get education benefits. Their older cousin would like for them to have more options than just the military and keeps getting her community college idea shut down. Any suggestions?

Used to have conference rooms at the office designated by letter: A was the big room, B and C for smaller meetings, H had teleconferencing equipment, etc.
Needed to stop off at the little programmer’s room once before a meeting. I told them I was going to conference room P.

Poor Gunther. Loved Luann, for naught. Loves Rosa , she’s leaving. Gunther is a good man. He is a very rare man. Heis not perfect, but he holds great good. He is kind to the elderly , and children. He is good to his Mother , and friends, and just about to anyone who knows him. Do you know how rare this is, for a teenage boy? I don’t care if he sews , many famous designers do too. It’s his heart that I care about. I wish him well.

If you’re thinking seriously of Corrections Officer, you can get a good idea of what to expect, what you’ll be up against, bywatching some of the many prison documentaries on youtube. You will not be dealing with nice people.

Or they swing back toward what is called “right” out of self interest amd realization certain policies are better for their children and seem more fair than first appeared so back when goods came from “somewhere” rather than by the efforts of others.

It’s not that I can’t imagine Gunther wanting to help people, it’s just that I can’t imagine Gunther existing, much less thriving, in a rural 3rd-world environment. He would be headed home to Mom by the second day.

While I was in high school they opened up the new junior college. Many of my high school moonlighted, teaching evening classes. By the time I graduated, the junior college started full time instruction at their new campus and several of my high school teachers “graduated” along with me into junior college. Some of the Pitts High teachers could advance to teach in the local community college, just as they graduated from Pitts Middle School to Pitts High School. I think that we haven’t seen the last of Mr. Foggerty, et al.

As long as people are referring to Jack Paar, I might just as well copy & paste the story:.In the days when you couldn’t count on a public facility to have indoor plumbing, a British woman was planning a trip to Germany. She was registered to stay in a small guesthouse owned by the local schoolmaster. She was concerned as to whether the guesthouse contained a WC. (In England, a bathroom is commonly called a WC, which stands for water closet.) She wrote the schoolmaster inquiring as to the location of the nearest WC..The schoolmaster, not fluent in English, asked the local priest if he knew the meaning of WC. Together they pondered possible meanings of the letters and concluded that the lady wanted to know if there was a Wayside Chapel near the house…a bathroom never entered their minds. So the schoolmaster wrote the following reply:.Dear Madam,.I take great pleasure in informing you that the WC is located 9 miles from the house. It is located in the middle of a grove of pine trees, surrounded by lovely grounds. It is capable of holding 229 people and is open on Sundays and Thursdays. As there are many people expected in the summer months, I suggest you arrive early. There is, however, plenty of standingroom. This is an unfortunate situation, especially if you are in the habit of going regularly..It may be of some interest to you that my daughter was married in the WC as it was there that she met her husband. It was a wonderful event. There were 10 people in every seat. It was wonderful to see the expressions on their faces. My wife, sadly, has been ill and unable to go recently. It has been almost a year since she went last, which pains her greatly..You will be pleased to know that many people bring their lunch and make a day of it. Others prefer to wait till the last minute and arrive just in time! I would recommend your ladyship plan to go on a Thursday as there is organ accompaniment. The acoustics are excellent and even the most delicate sounds can be heard everywhere. The newest addition is a bell, which rings every time a person enters. We are holding a bazaar to provide plush seats for all since many feel it is long needed..I look forward to escorting you there myself and seating you in a place where you can be seen by all..Sincerely,Schoolmaster

It will be like “Boy Meets World” where Mr. Feeny follows them from grade school to high school to college. ^Loved the “TV self-awareness” that they gave the characters, at times.. as well as a lot of “4th” wall references (direct/indirect)…… – And not to mention his being next door… that guy was “everywhere and nowhere!”… – Also wonder if they ever made a joke of him voicing K.I.T.T. during their rehearsals?… – For that matter, I wonder if they did that with John Forsythe and “Charlie” from “…Angels” during “Dynasty” tapings?…

Well, the “Skip To My Lou” developed from a children’s game that later became a rouse to introduce dancing in a way that would be disguised from Puritan “Party-Poopers” (since they frowned upon the activity)… – But “Skip To My Loo” is what I have to do some days, when I get back into my house, to hold a “P” party…. waiting stinks!…..er…. I mean isn’t cool!…

People like Gunther are needed in the Peace Corps. Practically everyone has a skill the PC can use….if it pays attention.

luannfan1212 – you’re right. you need to be a college graduate before they will accept you in the PC. It’s one of the reasons I never joined. My daughter joined the PC after she graduated from Case Western Reserve U.

When most kids are young, they follow their folks beliefs- which is mostly a drift a to the right. Then, they “rebel” and swing way to the left(somebody else should pay for all their sitting around). Then, they find that “special someone”, and start making babies. Then, they swing back to the right- because that’s how they were brought up. The circle is complete.^^Not necessarily, my parents were Liberals, me and my brother are both Liberals, always have been, always will be.

Another education option is cosmetology school, or esthetician training (they teach how to do facials, waxing, etc.), or masseuse training. Just putting that out there.

No, go on, tell us how you REALLY feel about the boring Aussie…. I don’t need him to vanish in a plane crash, I just want him to go on a very long tour in a play, while Luann goes on with a new life at community college and forgets all about him….

Let’s see, in a place far away, and a time long ago, wasn’t there something on television about a bunch of high schoolers who actually managed to graduate from high school? Oh, yeah, it was called “Saved By The Bell..The College Years”. Will history repeat itself ? Stay tuned. And will this strip possibly go from “G” to PG" ? One can only hope.

Of those not shown today, Tiffany could end up owning a small beauty shop, as a part of the “alternate plan”…
JayBluE almost 11 years ago

JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Just wait until they do “Saved By The Bell : The Retirement Home Years” ^And if you also count the “Miss Bliss” years, as well as the different kids going through after the “iconic” group left, and during the time of the college group, you’d have one full retirement home!… – And the first episode’s plot, Mr. Belding gives up his Tennessee school tenure, to return to Bayside, and somehow conveniently ends up owning/running the retirement home, and somehow finds out, it’s chock full of his old charges…. yep yep yep…. staying true to the convenient “move along with everybody” TV show plot device… right along with Laverne and Shirley (From Milwaukee to Cali) and I Love Lucy (NY to Cali)…..

When he’s in the Peace Corps, who will bring him his nightly plate of cookies and milk at bedtime?
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 11 years ago
Tiffany might forego college and get a job in LA (whether as a gofer for a movie company as she did before or simply as a waitress or sales clerk in Hollywood), while she tries to land bit parts in the movies or in modeling. Crystal seems more nearly a candidate to be joining Luann at Pitt CC. I can’t recall that she’s ever expressed any driving ambitions or demonstrated any great academic abilities. Unfortunately, that will keep her together with Knute, and she deserves better. Maybe she will meet someone else next year.

And it’s kind of noteworthy how it had William Frawley, too…. like: “What’s Fred Mirth doing on there?” Lol!…

I’ve been on the receiving end of “education” about a couple of places in other states myself, ha ha! – Another place we have here, that is a true enigma, is Taneytown…. as I was growing up, I always wondered why people kept saying “Tawnytown”…. I was like: “it’s T-A-n-e-y… Taaaay-ney!”….oops!….Go fig…..I now see that it wouldn’t even _sound _ as special if it was just “plain ol’ Tay-neytown”…..
