Zonker: Think cigarette marketing, Zip-- Marlboro's for guys, Slims for women, Kool's for blacks, same tobacco, but different images. There's no reason we can't create a "gay" brand of bud-- and own the category. Zipper: Except we're not gay! Zonker: Zipper, was the founder of Uncle Ben's Rice an elderly black cook? Zipper: Of course! He was a classic American success story! Zonker: Oh, dear... Zipper: Without Uncle Ben, there's no Dr. King! No Magic! No Tupac!

I will say it once again: a Walden education.

What is your excuse?
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace about 11 years ago
Obviously Uncle Ben is as important as Aunt Jemima

I take back my previous comments about Zipper needing to lose the round eyes…

“Kools for Blacks” ? Huh?
cdward about 11 years ago
Seriously? You’re comparing a fictitious pair of stoners with all Liberal arts degrees? That is seriously stupid.
2578275 about 11 years ago
No, rpmurray. It’s the result of being raised by for-profit media without parental supervision.

You guys might want to go back to school, liberal or not, just to learn some spelling. What the hell is a Newpoat?

When I was little, I had heard that God made us, so I envisioned him as a worker with an arm like the one on the Arm and Hammer soda box, weidking the mallet-looking hammer and crafting little children. In the background of his work shop was a magnificent stained-glass window.

The ancient, endless sigh of the older about the younger

You are correct of course. The trolls that post will no be concerned beyond noticing that they got a response.

That’s ’wielding." Sorry. I did a number on my third metacarpal or carpus or something (middle finger, left hand) yesterday and have wrapped my hand, which affects typing. Also affects “weild/wield”-discrimination part of brain.

@ allSeems many missed the point – both had a Walden education. Just different times and teachers.

Please expand on your statement. “Their liberals” do something or say something? Oh, pardon me! You really meant “they are” didn’t you? Now your statement is understandable.

rpmurray said,`This is your brain on a liberal arts degree.`-———————-`I have a strong feeling rpmurry thinks there is such a thing as a conservative arts degree.

According to Wikipedia :
“In 1932, Forrest Mars, Sr., moved to the United Kingdom with the goal of growing the Mars food company internationally.5 While in the United Kingdom, Mars learned of Erich Huzenlaub’s work with rice. Huzenlaub’s London based company was called “Rice Conversion, Ltd.”6 The two eventually formed “Mars and Huzenlaub”7 in Houston, Texas,"
Mars also happened to be the head of Mars Candys, which also produces M & M’s. He’s supposed to have discovered the idea for them while in Spain during the Spanish Civil War.
So Uncle Ben was as real as Betty Crocker.

Why not simply create a grow-op that doesn’t destroy the soil, pollute the air, or turn parkland or farmland into waste territory, no longer suitable for crops or animals?? Too hard, I guess, to be organic. Better stay small scale, very small.

Next, Doonie will have them try to be fake hipsters, then fake seniors, then fake blacks, and by January they’ll try and market themselves as muslims.

Marketing can make many folks believe anything. Ha! An American success story— Uncle Ben. How about Betty Crocker? I guess she was quite the success too, as someone mentioned. I hear that in Japan KFC has done a superb job of marketing around Christmas, so that in Japan they have the experience of getting Kentucky Fried Chicken as a big part of celebrating Christmas. It is a big thing there to get KFC and have a Christmas party on Christmas Day, I am told.

True, that.

Keys! Zip has Uncle Duke’s key, so there’s no B+E going on here. Glad they have a safe and warm place to spend the Winter, at least, clue or not about the Supermarket Icons.
montessoriteacher almost 11 years ago
They have an iPad on top of the mantle, so they seem to have enough to get what they need.

Advertisers definitely try to target niche groups.
