Byron Coates: Hi, my name is Byron Coates, and I'm a trainer for Sensitivity Solutions. The speaker has asked us to work with members facing female challengers in the fall. Let's start right out with a typical scenario. Say you've just made an ignorant, offensive comment to your opponent. What's your next play? Anyone? Republican 1: Flowers. Republican 2: Yeah, flowers. Republican 3: Flowers. Byron Coates: You'd think. The GOP confronts its lady problem.

Since the followup is so troublesome, best to avoid the initial faux pas
Let somebody else be the heavy
Swalb%515 about 11 years ago
Best thing to do is, watch what you say, and around whom youâre talking to. Fallout problem avoided.

You guys really see this as reality, donât you?

Blame on some one else, the script writer as long as it is not a female.
Basqueian about 11 years ago
Well, Orion, going by previous performance, yes, I see it as reality. As a woman, I have been horrified and disgusted by turns by the GOP attitudes and just horrified by the TP.

Just remember guys, the bigger the faux pas, the bigger and more expensive the gift !

This is a gender issue in our decadent culture more than a political party issue. We just treat each other very poorly much too often.

@fbjsr,I didnât know Schwarzneggerâs mistress had cancer or that he is a liberal.
2578275 about 11 years ago
Apparently the GOP got the woman vote, or at least appealed to women in â88, when GHW Bush said, âI want a kinder, more gentle America.â As a former director of the CIA he knows the rotten things weâve done to other countries.

âThere is nothing to say. The fact those guys exist is a crime against nature. They should never have been born. They are vile scum, raw sewage, and should slither away.â~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I gather you donât like themâŠâŠ.

Everyone can relax, it is now known the Benghasi is just a false controversy. Merry Christmas.
âI donât have time to think about a false controversy,â National Security Adviser Susan Rice told CBSâ â60 Minutesâ in an interview that aired Sunday.
Rice was talking about the September 11, 2012 terror attack in Benghazi, Libya that killed four Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and her insistence five days later â on all five Sunday talk shows â that the attack was a spontaneous event arising from a little-known anti-Muslim video.

âJust think of the outcome if it was a blatantly racist remark, and proceed from there.â.Susan, what makes you think they understand that this is also wrong?

âYou have only two women in true positions of power, and both are incompetent and even criminal; what do you do?â-âOnce theyâre kicked out of office put them in the Cabinet and blather on how weâre the party of women?ââUh, no, thatâs the opposite of what you do.âŠâ-âGive even more money to PP, not just on Motherâs Day but even Christmas?â-âNo, no I gots it, try and attract women governors by saying they could wind up like Sebelius and Napolitano, too?â-âSay the other party has a War on Women then cover up sexual abuse in our ranks and stop the DOJ from prosecuting anyone in our sphere?â-âCreate websites to defend our record on women and make up stuff about the GOP, then make up websites to defend the first websites with âfactsâ?ââGod, do you ever hear yourselves, do you ever actually thinkâŠ.?â
kaffekup about 11 years ago
And republicans never, ever say anything bad about the other party, and never excuse their own miscreantsâŠ

The former mayor of San Diego (a Democrat) and the Kennedy family should be front and center in this class.

If you wouldnât say it to your Grandmother, Mother or sisters, then donât say it to any woman.

Most emblematic of the problem is the moderator himself. A man shouldnât be teaching this session. At the very least, he should have a female co-trainer, preferably one whoâs suffered a few of the indignities the class purports to prevent.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen about 11 years ago
Was Joe Scarborough driving the office?(How does one drive an office?)Leaving a woman trapped alive in an air bubble in a submerged car while you do not try to get her help but rather go change into dry clothes is not the kind of brave, well thought out action we would want in anybody, not even a Kennedy. Not getting to be President after that was not punishment, just reality. He was never charged or punished.

I live in the state that had Jesse Helms. They donât live forever. You can chip away and vote them out, even if it takes a while.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen about 11 years ago
If 95% of all incumbents got reelected, then the House and the Senate would.never chamge by more than 5% per election..perhaps you mean of incumbents who seek reelection?.This in turn could mean some can see the writing on the wall and decide to not seek reelection in the first place.
kaffekup about 11 years ago
â Iâm not going to vote for a party that thinks I belong in a cage full of laws. Itâs as simple as that.âBut, but, Paula, thatâs the true definition of Freedom, isnât it?.âIt helps to not be in either party like myself.âAnd Iâm not, N-G; the Democrats arenât different enough for me to join..And Iâm in agreement; Clark, normally I agree with you, although some posts have been out of place, but todayâs is way over the top & needs to come down..In any case, I forgot my own rule: never argue with a RWNJ. They ignore whatever you say and mindlessly repeat their own talking points endlessly. And so it is here, today.
steinbergl about 11 years ago
I guess Democrats do not need sensitivity training when making informed offensive comments about Sara Palin.
Doublejake about 11 years ago
Donât worry about it too much, Clark. Nowadays, younger men with the same attitude offend women early enough that they donât get dates, donât get married, and donât have kids. GOP old-timers are a dying breed. Think of it as them self-chlorinating the gene pool.
montessoriteacher about 11 years ago
GT, you are inspired for this arc.

Nothing like living in the present, eh Republicans? How pathetic to bring up the Mary Jo Koepechne incident, which happened 44 years ago. Besides this, I am more interested in public policy than what anyone does in his/her personal life. It is the public policy which affects me, as an average person, not whether or not someone had an affair. People in both political parties have had affairs. So what? That doesnât affect me in terms of my life, it just doesnât. What Governor Ultrasound does just might affect me. If someone is too insensitive to understand what happens to a woman who gets pregnant as a result of rape and is running for office, that too could affect me, as an average person. Letâs get real here.
Liam Astle Premium Member about 11 years ago
Letâs see there are four female Republican governors. How many Democratic governors are women?
montessoriteacher about 11 years ago
Even if you are a female politician, this doesnât always mean that you will advocate for women. Again, if you are not an advocate for reproductive rights, for example, I am not interested in voting for you, whether you are male or female. I am for Hillary Clinton, but it will be a cold day in hell when I will ever vote for Sarah Palin. The fact that they are both female is most definitely beside the point.
zenguyuno about 11 years ago
The basic problem is that many donât know that they are making an ignorant, offensive comment.
Gokie5 about 11 years ago
I thought that Clark Kentâs comment was ironic.

Bickering about which granfalloon within a basically corrupt demographic (politicians) is more corrupt. The very definition of futility.

Not to forget that Delay actively shopped for republican judges by lodging complaints against the ones randomly assigned to his case. And they let him. And you know they will support a former leader of their party.
