The whole scenario makes me wonder how a Topsider would escape. I’m imagining that a pair of like minded souls would have to manage to get put on headhunter patrol, wait for their transporter to get a sufficient distance from base, dust its, remove any position identifying hardware (antennas and zero guns) and then just trek out on foot to the nearest ruins. I wonder if their transporter was in on this. Given what we have seen with Petey and his love, PTs do have the ability to think and change their alliegences.
The comment that the Topsiders made earlier “we were waiting for you”… Waiting for Wally specifically? Or any free people who came along? Also, if Albion had a commo box like Endtown’s, did it list the colonies in the network like Endtown’s did? Once again, I’m hooked and anticipating further revelations.

A final thought for tonight.What if…..These two persons are not actually Topsiders. They were outside Albion West when all this happened. Wearing the suits as a disguise to avoid Topsider patrols.And Albion West was not destroyed by Topsiders going inside. What if the satellite is also a weapon capable of firing a Amesworth Radiation beam blast from space to a target on the ground. Powerful enough for the beam to penetrate the ground killing everyone inside. The houses were burned from the top to just so far down. Either a high flash fire or a shot from above would do that. Its radiation so there would be heat but I believe no real explosion like a bomb crater so the surface would be unscarred.These two contacted Mallard about it and Mallard told them he would send someone to help. Wally asked for a mission. Mallard gave him one. Wally did not intend to follow up but even Mallard knew Albion West was a necessary stop and Wally would go there.That would make that satellite even more of a threat that just looking about on the ground. Its something Topsiders would do APEX was not just happy about the Mark II they continued with guns and bombs in the Amesworth style. A space weapon would be a logical step. Stops all the wasted time running about trying to find targets when the satellite would do all the work finding and even strike them with just a push of a button.Food for thought.

I’m not inclined to think the two Topsiders are mutants in disguise. All they would have had to do to identify themselves as mutants would be to take their suits off…they would have done that right after they surrendered to Wally…
Regrading TSers in general and the mutagen, I suspect there was a eugenic intent with the virus that went terrible wrong, providing deep insight into APEX motives. Since the war and such, APEX has likely encouraged the notion of survivors ARE the fittest and the mutant are doubly tainted, over and above any virus vector. With that kind of extremist ideology, any doubt or dissent is likely to be met with “strong disapproval”. The pair of TSers here might be troops too squeamish for wholesale murder, and authorities left them to the mutants, presuming that the mutes’ would do to them some version of what the TSers do to mute’s. (or they mutinied, dusted the rest and tossed their gear)
I suspect they were planted as bait for mutants of other communities.
Their radios were removed to keep them from calling for help as well as being picked up by any radio equipment mutants might have that could trace signals back to TS locations.
The bait would tell a tale of being ostracized and ask for asylum in their saviors’ community, after which the Topsiders would know its location and wipe it out.
