Back then, Canadian $2 bills circulated freely – unlike the US where they exist but do not circulate. Even the banks, who refuse to provide them, don’t remember why. Unlike color-coded Canadian money, one must read US bills. The $2 has Jefferson and the Peoples Party (Populists) emphasized Jeffersonian political philosophy, so the banks stopped reminding people. (The nickel doesn’t count because it is identified by size, not what’s on it.)

I would have thought it was earlier. I worked almost 10 years for Zenith Corp and they regularly sent me to Mexico. I remember the trip when I brought back that 30" concrete mermaid statue. I had full co-operation on the planes, but switched from Mexicana to American in DFW and went running through the airport bent double to hold her on (must have been a dolly). Previously had thought of rolling luggage, but as it was probably before 87 (1980-1989), I probably had some rental from the airport.

Personally, I don’t like wheeled suitcases – too noisy. I pick them up and carry them but then the wheels are a nuisance.
