Iām still perversely fascinated by the troll phenomenon, the same way I might be by a mass murderer or a bad auto accident. I just canāt imagine what itās like to go through life so fizzing with partisan rabies that I have to invest a cynical political spin in everything I see. I canāt believe that these folks lead otherwise happy, satisfying lives. As I learned in my few attempts to actually talk with Sarge in both his incarnations, the urge to troll and self-awareness seem to be inversely related, so I canāt just ask the troll. Is anyone aware of any serious looks into the psychology of trolling?

TheWashingtonPost THIS JUST INāTrudeau puts daily āDoonesburyā on long-term hiatus to work on renewed āAlpha Houseā: āIām ready for an extended breakāBy Michael Cavna E-mail the writer
AT THIS POINT in Garry Trudeauās career, John Goodman has just proved to be more irresistible a roommate than Zonker.
Hello, daily call sheet; goodbye for now, daily comics page.
Trudeau, whose TV show āAlpha Houseā recently ended its debut season with strong viewership, got the good news: Amazon Studios has picked up his politically satiric program for a second season, the cartoonist and his syndicate are set to announce later this afternoon. Thatās right: Fans will get to see more of Goodman and the gang portray four Republican senators who banter and bicker as Hill roomies.
But providing punch lines for Trudeauās newest characters comes at a cost: As of Feb. 24, the daily āDoonesburyā ā Trudeauās Pulitzer Prize-winning comic strip ā will be put on long-term and open-ended hiatus, distributor Universal Uclick will announce.
Trudeau will continue to create new Sunday āDoonesburyā strips; the rest of the week, readers will get reruns dating back to the featureās syndication launch in 1970. More than 13,000 potential āFlashbackā strips, Universal Uclick notes, havenāt been seen in a newspaper since their initial run.
āIāve done the strip for 43 years ā 45 if you include the college edition [at Yale] ā and Iām ready for an extended break,ā Trudeau, 65, tells Comic Riffs.
In making the move, the New York-based cartoonist takes nothing for granted: āA hiatus comes with uncertainty, of course: I canāt assume Iāll be welcomed back a year or two from now.ā
They donāt actually invest political spin in everything they see; they are quite adept in turning a blind eye to the nonsense from the right-wing noise machine.
I think itās an unhappy fact of human nature that weāre less inclined to look with pleasure on whatās good about our lives than we are to look resentfully on whatās not so good. Overcoming that tendency is one of the keys to contentment.
And thatās not to say that we shouldnāt always strive to improve our lot, both individually and collectively. But perspective, people, perspective.

I can understand Trudeau taking a break. We are living in the Golden Age of the Obama presidency. There is nothing to criticize about it.

A facetious take on anyone who would criticize GTās thinking that his motherās death warranted time off. Not directed at you.

so what ever did happen to Joanieās first husband ? the father of JJ?
kaffekup about 11 years ago
I think we all, or most of us, understood the situation as being in a theater with no fire.

Making Joanie a bitter old woman, huh. Very bitter.
