Dad’s explanation of science and Hobbes’ explanation of math have a lot in common — both are BS. http://www.macroeducation.org/calvin-hobbes-math/

No, notice Dad just said “Go tell her that,” not who told him to tell her that.

Dad seems to have displayed both poor abstract reasoning and even worse interpersonal relationship skills. Fortunately gender stereotypes are bogus so we won’t extrapolate that he represents men in general ;-)

Oh, yeah, Dad. Go tell her that. But not just before dinner. You might find a surprise in your food, and I don’t mean dessert!

Conversely, time should go faster when you are totally still. However, any kid sitting at a desk in class will tell you this is when time REALLY slows down!

I love the way Calvin’s Dad explains complex matters in a simple way! I try to do that to my own kids!

(My son now says he’ll never forgive me for the yarns I told him when he was little.)

    Sounds reasonable to me.

Go ask Hobbes. He’ll give you the real reason. Like when he attacks you at the door when you come home from school. THAT’S faster than the speed of light.

Moms theory of relatives is to talk to them on the phone all day. Your right about her Calvin.

Having raised 3 boys to adulthood, I will stand with Calvin’s dad; it is a father’s sacred duty to test the gullibility of his sons on a regular basis. Mine must be smarter than Calvin (who is clearly a genius bored with school) because they alway seemed to know when I was talking out my backside. They enjoyed it, though.

I wonder what Calvin’s mom said. I also think that Calvin going back and telling his mom what his dad told him to tell her, will only start an argument.

Theory of relativity = total b.s. They tried to push that crap in the 60’s, saying that astronauts should be paid more because time was different in space, because they were traveling faster in time because of their speed. Five test with atomic clocks proved no difference between the clocks. Relativity just means that time seems to go faster for me than for you and vice versa. It has nothing to do with the speed you are going.
