This is pretty exciting. Silver Nitrate and Sprocket can’t be stopped quite that easily. I think we have have underestimated them. (BTW, the headlights look better today.)
I hope neither O’Copper nor his partner were hit by that reckless gunfire! And, what lies directly ahead for the speeding Sprocket and her brother-in-crime?
This is one of my favorite stories since Team Tracy has taken over the strip. (ONE of MANY), I like Sprocket and her brother as villains. I hope they aren’t killed so to return at another time. I also hope we get to see Mary Perkins again before this story ends.
I can take the moon stuff; I can take Abner’s death traps; I can take Mysta; and I can take Diet Smith’s toys. But I am having tough time swallowing those machine guns – even if this is a comic strip!
The Nitrates: Moved from somewhat “likable” con artists (save for Miles and the hyena) to out-and-out murderous scum. Should they be allowed to survive (as in Mike and Joe sparing their lives) for a future adventure?.I don’t know. Let’s ask Flattop. Seriously, a big flaw in many cartoons and movies is when the hero is always up against the same batch of bad guys. A sort of Smurfs and Daedalus scenario. Batman and Joker. Superman and Lex Luther. Flattop’s dead; move on. Moon Maid’s dead; move on. If bad guys don’t die, then the strip doesn’t move on..While the Nitrates seemed to have a low profile during their scams, their getaway(s) are anything but. Now, we know that the FBI (Fritz Ann) were on to them. If this is how they “blow the town” when the “jig is up,” I don’t see how they could have escaped Dick Tracy’s attention..And the Nitrates do seem rather experienced on this. They must have done it before. It’s this drawing of attention that bothers me. Surely, they could have just snuck out of town and, if Sprocket would only wear some shoes, no one would be the wiser of where they went..Still, Sam and Tracy’s condition remains unreported. That is the main suspense in this story right now..Last, and certainly least: I agree with steve gallacci that this road block does not appear connected with the dragnet. If they were, likely they would be shooting back by now..But I don’t think another bridge out or train wreck would be a proper “classic ending.” It has been overused, at least in my opinion..I’d like to know a little more about these characters. And another “Sweatbox” ending would rob us of that.
While Tracy and Sam are probably pretty banged up, my thought is that Dennis O’Copper may end up a casualty.Don’t forget, his wife, Frizzletop, is a distant relative of Flattop’s.

A police officer named O’Copper? I’m sorry, but that’s pushing theme naming a little hard.

Unless I’m mistaken, Dennis O’Copper has been a recurring character for years.

Complain about the name to Mr Gould; he goes back a ways — to the FDR years, I think

Uh oh. That kind of road block is not for bad guys, but some kind of road condition. A classic end to our bad guys.
