I bet she’ll look like a real “deer” when she tries on the next one. (Fact: Hefner did consider a stag at one point for the magazine’s official mascot.)
Hef did indeed consider a stag as the mascot, since he was originally going to call the magazine “Stag Party.” Might have been interesting to see the bunnies (does?) wearing antlers instead of bunny ears. Would have been a bit of a gender-bender, since only males have antlers (lots of great stuff there for the sociologists and psychologists to analyze). It also would have provided a way for the ladies to fend off the more offensive customers (and given a new meaning to the expression, “she’s got a nice rack”). We’re probably all a little better off that the rabbit took hold of Hef’s imagination instead . . .
