    Dryer lint works well also.

My wife brushes our long hair cat and puts the fur out on a bush for the birds. They actually use it in their nests.

One more week, and we’ll have Carolina wrens hatching in the laundry room.

It’s the principle! He’s a cat, no friend to birds!

I used to put dog hair out for the birds. The birds at my daughters house have started unraveling the back of her patio furniture. I had noticed it was getting ragged and then one day we saw a bird pull a strip of the chair back…..so funny.

Actually, dryer lint should not be used – it will get waterlogged in the rain and hold moisture too well. I put cat fur out, too!

Boy! I’ll bet getting dive-bombed by a couple of birds – shades of Tippi Hendron@ – would get anybody to the barbershop, post-haste.

I wish I’d known about the put-the-fur-out-for-birds thing when I was a teen. I had a lovely angora rabbit, and he liked to have his spare fur gently plucked out. (Once I pulled too hard on a snarl, and he politely put his teeth on my wrist – not to break the skin, but to warn, “Hey, watch it!”)

As for critters in the laundry, one of my daughters had her washer-dryer in a huge garage, and once a skink got into the dryer.

Last year I was sitting on a bleacher watching a cactus wren build a nest of horse tail hair in the roof of the arena. As it came back out of the hollow metal beam, its tail feathers caught in the hair and yanked the whole nest out. It landed on the end of the bleachers and started going around in circles, trying to grasp the nest in its beak, like a dog chasing its tail. It finally fell off the end of the bleachers and the nest came loose.

a blue bird gathering it’s nest, has very little time to rest. While gathering it’s bits of cat hare fur.

And while the south is getting warm, people are flocking in a swarm,to get away from the northern BURRRRRRRR !!!!!!

    winter has not left yet.

And then before you know it, I’ve turned into a poet,

With the help of Mary Poppins!!spoon full of sugar…….

The laundry/utility room is out in the garage. The birds have to fly through the exterior door about 6’ in, and make a “horseshoe” turn into the room. A few days ago I was standing just inside that room, turned sideways, when the hen came flying around the corner and almost hit me in the left eye. I didn’t know birds had “air brakes”. Scared the tail-feathers off both of us.

There’s an old superstition (sort of a Creole witch thing) that says that if you let a bird get your hair, you’ll suffer from constant headaches.

They should stay warm if a cold snap hits real quick. I’m pretty sure Luddi’s fur makes a good insulation. lol

Long hair (and other fibers) can tangle around little legs/toes, and cut off circulation, causing amputation.
