My condolences to LH, It’s never easy, and on a birthday just does not help things. Age is just a number, but a life is worth celebrating, even one cut short, Be thankful for the time they had in our world. And never forget how that all too brief time enriched your experiences.Clive only experiences consciousness, when there is adequate power to his neural circuits. It brings to mind Schrodinger’s cat both alive and dead at the same time. His neurons and brain cells a simple selectively conductive polymer, won’t rot, or decay. But does he experience his moments of non existence on a quantum level? Even though there is no power, his atoms and electrons carry a voltage of their own, tiny though it may be.It could be enough for him to experience an altered state of being, unknown to those of us still chained to the “biological state.”We’re talking Pico or even Femto amps here, I have meters on my bench that don’t even come close to measuring that low a current, not without some fancy math.He may be in a limbo of sorts where time passes differently, unaware of the world outside his styrene cranium.
Once, when I asked a tall colleague for help getting something off a high shelf, he threw down his pen and said, “Can you get that for me? You’re closer than I am.” So now I just use my preferred method of jumping and swatting at things and catch them as they fall. Most of the time..
I occasionally wonder what life would be like in a world where people mutated without causing the end of civilization as we knew it. There would be people of so many sizes and shapes that traditional mass production of certain goods would be problematic. The wide variety of clothing sizes might require clothing to be produced in larger sizes and tailored down to fit individual mutants. Vehicles might be built in different sizes (say a sub compact for Wally and Holly and an extra large for Walter) or could be fitted with adapter kits. Even in peacetime, the mutagenic “plague” would cause severe dislocations, economic as well as psychological.
Its hard to tell how deep Sarah’s resentment goes. For most of the grumps I work around, the grumbling is just ‘motor noises;’ the sounds that squeaky but essentially good hearted people make as they do what needs to be done.
And speaking of a really good hearted person, my wishes go out to Levelhead: may my Greathearted God surround you with the good hearts you have nurtured during your life. The happiest part of a birthday is the well-wishes of loving hearts returning and magnifying the love you have diffused out to them.
I shouldn’t offer my sympathy, I guess, if i’m just butting in without really knowing what’s going on, but you can have them anyway if you want them. Happy Birthday.
A though on a mutant economy- With the technology already demonstrated, something like 3-D print-on-demand can take care of a lot of the issues of differing morphology. With populations of any real size, “species” specific specialty producers would be viable as well.
The virus seems to all about morphology rather than a literal change in species. That the mutants are described as cartoon characters, they may actually be characatures of animal/human crosses rather than literal re-combinations.

There is little I can say and I know not what to say, Level_Head.
All I can think of to say is that my sympathies go with you, and that sounds so lame.

By the way, it looks more like a baked ham with cloves than a casserole. (I gotta pick one up for Easter.)

I guess Sarah had cancer of the soul. Becoming a anthromorph does not cure that condition.

Where’d they get the cooler for the last portable brain? And carrying that won’t be easy.

I’m willing to bet that Sarah & Jim will have a bit of soul-searching to do as this arc continues…

Clive’s serial number is much lower than Petey’s. An older model?
