Janis: "Ahh, the bluebirds are expecting!"
Janis: "Tsk tsk tsk! Those doves!"
Janis: Oh, dear! The wrens are feuding with the neighbors again!
Arlo: We're not bird watchers! We're bird VOYEURS!
Not all wrens are feisty. Bewick’s wrens are not. They’re friendly, never fight with other birds, and nest in low bushes around homes—which is why they’re extinct on the East Coast and Midwest, they’ve been wiped out mostly by housecats. They have 22 songs and quite a voice for such a tiny bird, if you’re lucky enough to get to be near one. Please keep your cats inside.
Reminds me of a poem my mom used to tell about birds and love -
The dove says -I’m dove, lets make love.
The wren says -I’m a wren, tell me when.
The duck says -I’m a drake, you made a mistake.
We had birds once. They nested in the window next to our window a/c. So cute to hear the baby birds. Then we had bird mites – in bed – Ugh. Tiny little poppy seed shaped creatures crawling all over us. Had to have the exterminator in, major work with sheets, pillows, mattress – had to vacuum top of dressers and night stands and anything on them…. Almost as bad as bedbugs. The window a/c went and now there is a wall unit – no more birds here.
