Knute reminds me of that old Toyota commercial… “Oh, oh, oh, what a feeling!…..” -If ol’ Gunth had given a speech, he’d now have gone from “giving a speech” to “speechless” in a short amount of time…. – I am expecting a pigeon or two to request clearance for landing upon him, soon…. – And he still looks the way you look when you get “sticker shock”… or open next month’s bill…

IBJ is not the only one. My alleged Internet “Provider” periodicallyplays Silly Buggers with me, such that some days I spend more time trying to get a connexion to the Net (annd KEEP it once I luck out and get it) than I spend actually DOING anything!

When I was in HS, there really WERE guys like Gunther… worse, actually, if you can believe it.

I just think we can’t assume that Rosa’s parents don’t know about her plans. Maybe they told her it would be okay to go to Peru for a year if her uncle says yes, on the condition she gets the deferred enrollment in Yale, as others have mentioned. I can’t imagine a brother or BIL making plans for my kids without my consent and knowledge, Latino family or not. I know my husband and I would be furious if this were to happen behind our backs. How would you people as parents feel in this situation?

Thank you, flowergirl19! There is no way her uncle would have helped Rosa put this together and kept it secret from her folks. I don’t care how dysfunctional their relationship might be, that just Would Not Happen.

I’m amazed he’s not drooling.

I actually feel sorry for Gunther, but maybe this will be the incentive he needs to rethink his whole approach to girls and relationships. Maybe he’ll realize that being too scared and timid will not get him a relationship or help him to maintain one.

Will he come out of it? I hope so. Gunther needs someone to talk to.

The Goof-Ball has it right. Stoked. Now is the time for Frank DeGroot to earn his freight as the man in this strip. Only Frank has the experience and perspective required. Gunther needs a father’s counsel at this critical moment. They need to walk away and talk this over. Go Frank!

Poor Gunther; what possibly can snap him out of this state of shock?Let’s not automatically assume that Rosa will go to Peru and her uncle there; she still does not have her parents’ permission, and in her family, I think, that is very important. Since her father is a veteran, much-travelled diplomat, he may think it okay, or he may be a stern disciplinarian and insist she honor her commitment to go to Yale. Her mother is an unknown factor, but may not like the idea of her teenaged daughter travelling alone overseas….

There are other fish in the sea.

OK, so it looks like this will go on into next week, which should be all about Gunther’s decision process.

I will not make any predictions nor express any “imagination” or desires. I will simply wait it out and see what unfolds. Then I’ll critique it.

When Gunther joins the U.S. Marines, he’ll be chanting:

Rosa is going to have her hands full just establishing a new life at her uncle’s clinic in Peru. The very last thing she needs is a completely helpless sort-of boyfriend tagging along. Gunther has enough trouble coping with life in Pitts, and Peru would be many orders of magnitude more daunting. Rosa would have to spend 24/7 rescuing Gunther from one disaster after another. She has better things to do, surely.

I can understand why Gunther is doing the deer-in-the-headlights shtick; now, his girlfriend is going to be 6000 miles away instead of only 2000

Oh, Gunther. Our biggest regrets in life are not for the things we have done, but for things we haven’t done.

I feel so bad for Gunther. But that’s the bitter-sweet part of high school graduation. Saying “good-bye” to all of your friends that you have known for years, as you each go your separate ways, to pursue your dreams.

So, will this be the big snap? Will Gunther stay with his plans or run off to Peru? My bet…Peru.

Well, Greg had to get Rosa out of the strip somehow; how else does he get to Gunthann / Luanther / whatever the shipper name for them is this week?

Eventually, this shock state will pass; replaced by tears! — and a rather long mourning period!

Just when you thought the worst was over.

No, I won’t be shocked. I’ll just be disappointed, that Gunther is following the same easy-way-out of the strip as did Luann’s other previous suitors, namely being exiled to a foreign land. That’s lazy writing.

Remember when…

Scenario 3: Rosa’s next two weeks with Gunther will be a slow decline. Never once will Gunther tell her how he feels about her. He has NEVER told her. They will part with a waive as she goes up the stairs and waits for her plane while tears weld up in Gunther’s eyes. Two days later Rosa will call Gunther. She won’t tell him she met someone else, but she will say, “You have never told me how you feel about me. I’m tired of waiting.”

bullcrap! The kissing scene (re-posted yesterday) had him show her exactly how he felt!

And why he’s been in “shock” over the last two strips… :-)

My #3 scenario is based on the experiences of a guy I went to school with and whose first romance filled his first two years of college, ending when she broke up with him because he never said the three little words.

If he stays that erect for more than fours, he should call his doctor.

Well yes, me too. That’s exactly what I’m saying. All I’m asking is to be included in the planning and decision making.
