Where does one begin
When the art is such a sin
The dialogue is not much better
It makes me yell āDonnerwetterā
From elbow to shoulder, Tracysā arm does not exist
Why oh why does the terrible art still persist
There are so many mistakes to see
In no way can we just let it be
The Maestro does his best to threaten
Heāll not be arrested for it Iām bettinā
Tracy as a cop is a flop
Stuck here in this worthless plot
Just when you think it canāt get any worse
The next day is so much more perverse
Well, as we have come to expect
That the strip will die of neglect
Its death will not be dignified
And Locher will be forever villified
I guess weāll have to blame Locherās erattic penciling again. Faulty āproportionsā. Another weird result arising from SLOPPY art.
They can never get the number of strings OR the SIZE of the Violin right. You can see itās considerably LARGER today than it was yesterday (then, about the size of Philās āheadā) and our astute detective has instantly noticed that, and assumed a significant WEIGHT change,
Otherwise, how the heck would he know (?) Has he ever held that sort of āinstrumentā before. The guy hasnāt even āfiddledā around except for two brief flirtations back in the thirties (Jean Penfield - ā34 and Madelien Dell - ā37) ā¦ and got slapped up by Tess for āfeelingā around too much.
So that āexplainsā it all, and if you doubt me - check his EDITORIAL board. The man has churned out 18 cartoons in the last 21 days
Why worry about Dick Tracyās 50 piddling newspapers (?) Focus energy where the real action is AT !
Besides, over there, itās O.K. to draw ābabyā hands and waist length arms.
The reason Tracy is so sensitive to how much a violin ought to weigh is that he plays the violin a lot, only we donāt see him do so because it would be even more boring than the typical storyline. See, when a perp he has just arrested starts in on the sad story of his broken family and socioeconomic distress, Tracy plays āHearts and Flowersā to drown him out.
leakysqueaky712, jakebb2, thanks for the link. The annual subscription is in fact $15. It may be that they just know that Nighthawks is very wealthy, what with being the ambassador and having access to all those bribes and allā¦
Ok, so Iāll just gloss over the fact that the conductor was about to smack his son with a two million dollar violin.
And, I wonāt ask how the string quartet got the stolen violin even though they arenāt part of the bomb plot.
Or, why the sonās band should have their debut gig at a diplomatic reception, and why the son was not flagged since Tracy presumably filed a police report saying he was wanted for questioning in the disappearance of the violin and the assault on his dad.
Or why it is that the violin passed through an xray machine and the bomb wasnāt detected.
Iāll just ask how it is that the conductor, the OWNER of the violin, does not notice itās heavier than normal while Tracy does, even though he doesnāt play and has never seen it before. Or maybe he does play, which is why he rarely appears in the strip any more.
Said it before, Iāll say it again, itās a bleeep shame that a once-great strip is being done with such an obvious lack of care, talent and passion.
Tracy is using a seldom seen boxing move: when your opponentās fists are inches away, ignore him completely. Donāt even look at him; look at your hands.
Itās funny how seldom expert pugilists use that moveā¦.
I think Tray-C could look at the violin, knowing that it is hollow and guestimate how much it would weigh. Unless strads were made of petrified wood, that could be deduced.
Maestro felt it was heavier, but for reasons known only in Locherworld, the classicly-trained, lifelong musician whoās probably held more violins than Itzhak Perlman, just plain olā didnāt care.
The strad did not go through the x-ray machine because itās a STRAD!!!
I can hardly wait for the ensuing fistcuffs! Phil will punch Tray-C once, and be yelling, āMy hand! My hand! I broke my hand and canāt play my precious strad or pummel my son!ā

Weird that itās heavier, given that it has one less string as compared to panel one.
And as noted: Why is it Tracy would notice the difference in weight, yet he Mastro didnāt?
Oh, yeahā¦Locher conservative world, where facts donāt matter.
LudwigVonDrake about 15 years ago
Thatās one tiny fist in the second panel.
