I like the old radio shows that were funded by sponsors and included product placement in the script! Not only is the creative placement entertaining, but it gives a glimpse into what real life was like in those days.
I would much prefer that kind of corporate sponsorship, than government funding. And product placement within a story or comedy routine is FAR less annoying than commercials (although some commercials today are becoming as or more entertaining than the main feature).

Later somebody got legislation passed that “shipping and handling” would be exempt from sales tax. The biggest problem is that nobody defined what “handling” is. Actually, it is normally part of the cost of doing business and therefore part of the cost of product, but it sounds better if product price is lowered and the difference put 9in “handling.”
You should try living in Canada and ordering something on line from the States. Suppliers will ship in America for the cheapest rate, but if it’s going to Canada they’ll only ship Canada Post super-deluxe. Postage is usually several times the cost of the item.
