Innocent till proven guilty, right? And we are the eye witnesses…we all saw, first the boredom, then the surprise in TJ’s face. It’s not as though he would fake that for us.

Making TJ a criminal doesn’t strike me as an interesting story line. Making TJ merely look like a criminal to Brad, now that has legs.

Well, the computer upgrade didn’t go all that well…seems like the motherboard can’t find its own “sound-card!” Guess we’ll have to wait until the weekend to get it resolved. Writing of resolved, I’ve been kicked off of GoComics website about five times already! Always asks if I want a certain comic other than the one I am looking for (Luann). Grrrrr! I hope the post count doesn’t go over 300 like it did yesterday! ’Nite all… ;)-———————————————————————————-“It is not easy nowadays to remember anything so contrary to all appearances as that officials are the servants of the public; and the official must try not to foster the illusion that it is the other way round.”(Sir Earnest Gowers, 1880-1966)

    @meh~thodology: I don’t see a slanderous statement there. It wasn’t a statement, it was a question.

I don’t insist that TJ needs to go to jail, but I do think it’s past time for him to learn a Valuable Life Lesson. It’s personal prejudice on my part, but I like to see some growth in characters, and TJ, like poor Knute, has been so typecast for so long, that they just don’t interest me any more.

I’d like to see the legal action result in a whacking great fine, or perhaps the loan he took out to buy the truck and fix it up becomes immediately payable in full. One way or another, Daddy’s trust money is either seized or not enough. In this scenario, he has to hustle to make a living and knows he’s got a police record, so he’d better the heck keep his nose extremely clean.

I don’t expect that’ll happen, but TJ long ago ceased being interesting to me because he’s so damn predictable. He’s crooked and thinks he’s a lot smarter than he really is. He hasn’t learned anything new in years!

I used to have friends like that, until I decided to upgrade to a better class of friends.

In the Aug. 1 strip, TJ is clearly surprised that the truck blew up, thus indicating that he didn’t blow it up intentionally to collect the insurance dough.

about Brad “not knowing Firefighters were scammed”. is not so much about they paying for the meals, it was about him finding out that Delta, Luann, Bernice, Nancy and Frank were conned into giving free supplies and work for what they thought it was a free service for the firefighters, the injured party were the 5 volunteers, and the beneficiaries of the correction of the injury to the 5 volunteers were the firefighters who ended up getting the food for free as the 5 volunteers were expecting

TJ is innocent, I believe, but Brad is right to be suspicious, because TJ’s behavior is suspicious. What will happen next? Will TJ be compelled to defend himself in court? Will Annie Awful reappear in a new position of authority, from which she can persecute TJ?

Go ahead, be honest Brad.1) You can’t lie anyway.2) TJ heard enough he can guess the rest.3) Get it out in the open— otherwise it will eat at you.4) Considering TJ’s “ethics”, blowing up a truck for money is just a clever way of doing business. Just another scam. So what? He’d probably only be sad that he hadn’t actually thought of doing it!5) You’ll be giving TJ time to prepare a defense against other people’s suspicions. Especially those of investigators!

    Yo Smiley?

Brad Actually Said that You are a Slimy, No Good, Two-Bit, Con-Artist, that Gets Away with Just About EVERYTHING Because HE has Gullible SAPS for Friends.

And as for You Brad, I’d Drop the whole “Fraud Investigation” thing because when the Cops look into it, THEY are Also going to Look into YOUR background since You LIVE with the Jackass, even though Some of US Told You Not to, and Old Smiley will No Doubt find a way to Pin the Explosion on YOU, Causing You to lose Your Job, Your Girl and Spend some Serious Prison Time. (DEEP Breath)But, All Will be Well, Brado because the Two of You Will Still Be Best Friends, Because YOU are a Trusting TOOL and TJ’s “Too Cute to go to Prison”.

the question isn’t going to be whether TJ gets his insurance claim or is charged formally with fraud. THe issue is going to be Brad & TJ’s future relationship given Brad’s suspicions

Absolutely! I suspect they will confront each other at some point… privately, if not publicly. The end result will be that TJ will leave the house. Whether or not they’re still friends thereafter, I don’t know. I hope they can hang onto something.

You can bet the insurance company will investigate and so will the fire company.

But it won’t be Brad investigating. It will be either the Fire Marshall or the Arson Team, etc. Now, if they connect Brad to TJ via the street address (or by other means), they will definitely interview him. Brad will have to make some tough decisions, soon. I just hope he can stay within the confines of “plausible deniability.”

-THe issue is going to be Brad & TJ’s future relationship-I agree with you. I think that will be the main point of this arc, whether there’s an arson investigation by the Fire Marshall, or a denial of a claim, or what. Maybe this is the compliction for Brad and Toni’s wedding, if they were counting on TJ for catering and he walks out on them.

“Therefore, you chose to avail yourself of the ‘freedom of expression.”*BS – Valuable idea. However, I think there would be more precedent, legally, if he were to say he was merely burning a flag in the middle of the truck as an expression of his distate for American cuisine (sno-cones, hot dogs, and suds). A well-founded hatred as that cuisine was destroying his business.

And even if TJ didn’t purposely start it, he could still be tempted to try to “take advantage of the situation”. Even if it was an “accident”, negligence could still disqualify him , based on whatever stipulations his insurance policy has set. So there is some potential for him to do it, hoping it would seem like a “mercy trashing”…..
