Jim was born at the beginning of the century and died at the end of the century. He saw the president assassinated and Johnson become president. He died in the same house he was born in but he died in a different state. The house didn’t move and the state line did not run through his house. What state was he born in and what state did he die in?

Either West Virginia which was originally part of Virginia or Maine which was part of Massachusetts and became a separate state due to the Missour Compromise.

Don’t forget Johnson as president.

Didn’t the snow they got every winter give Sammy a clue that he wasn’t in Virginia?

Also, it snowed in Virginia slightly more often in the Eighteenth Century,whether you attribute this to anthropogenic climate changer or natural climate cycles.

Jim must have been born in early 1800, was an adult when Lincoln was assassinated and VP Andrew Johnson replaced him. So, I’m guessing it would be a state change in borders that occurred after the Civil War, but can’t determine which states that would be from my brief search..

Both Virginia and Mass are 2 of the 4 states that are actually commonwealths, not states. But I’ve learned that pointing that out is as good as tatooing “Dork” on my forehead, so I don’t.

Hulllooo Folks….I think you are missing the obvious. In the panel two days ago, it was discovered that Sam can READ. Hard to believe he NEVER came across anything with the name Mass-as-too-shus on it. How can he be duped if he can read?

Larry was the first to answer correctly and then the others figured out the rest. He was born in 1800 in Virginia (Carton made me remember this riddle) and died in 1900 in West Virginia as the state split during the Civil War. The president was Lincoln (not Kennedy as many assume) as the vice president was Andrew Johnson. Posting here for those that look back. Posting in tomorrows for the others.
