Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for September 07, 2014
Transcript:
Pig: Hey, Goat, whatcha doing? Goat: Practicing my singing. I've been taking voice lessons. Pig: Good. How's it going? Goat: Okay, except for the high notes. I don't know why, but the treble range is hard for me. Pig: You really struggle with it? Goat: Yeah. So much so that when I sing it, I scrunch up my face, giving it this deep, furrowy look... or at least that's what my voice teacher told me yesterday. Rat: What are you guys talking about? Goat: Yesterday, all my trebles seemed so furrowy. Rat: God. I hate this comic strip. Goat: Let it be.

Oh, goody. Beatles-related pun.

Obviously, The Beatles weren’t thinking of Stephan when they wrote that song.

Saw that pun coming from the third panel.
Dobie Takahama about 10 years ago
So much win in this comic! 2 Beatles refs in on comic! Awesome!

You know, PBS would be funnier if they stopped resorting to puns… the occasional one is funny, but not a whole franchise of them.

Oh, c’mon, Rat. You know you like it. Just because Cartoon-Boy pays you to be the Heel in the PBS franchise doesn’t mean you can’t lighten up once in a while. Today’s wordplay was pretty decent, for Cartoon-Boy….

At least he would end on a high note.

Any pun is worth the effort to set it up.

I don’t look for the puns, but it was obvious to me that panel one was a set up for something horrible….

Didn’t see the pun coming. As funny as the ’dunk rye for me Arch and Tina". Pastis is the master of puns!

I love this comic strip and how self depricating Stephan Pastis can be.

Stephan’s puns always seem to take the long and winding road.

When goat mentioned problems hitting the high notes I figured someone (Rat) would help him reach them by hitting him in the oompa-loompas.
Fido (aka Felix Rex) about 10 years ago
I had intended to curse Cartoon-Boy for defiling the Great Lennon, but after reading the responses I can see that it would only have led to a cry of “ONO!”
Rhododendron about 10 years ago
What is Rat’s problem? Treble? Furrowy? This is a high-brow joke.
Piksea Premium Member about 10 years ago
I bet it’s really really difficult to come up with all of these truly groanworthy puns. Impressive work, Mr. Pastis!!!

As a lover of puns, I am rating this one first class. When I get to PBS, it always brightens my day. Good Day, Sunshine! Sun, sun, sun, here it comes!
