What news. THey overpowered others to gain control. very human of them. It makes me think of what scares us about people from other times, galaxies, or dimentions. But mainly that the ones who want the power to control others are not ussualy altruistic, but rather the ones who want to control others are not all that smart, just coniving because of their greed.
The Other Should Go. Song by JennerTo the tune of on Your Mother Should Know by Lennon and McCartney. We made it up: no pelts in the colony ‘cause it belongs to Lizard alone.Though there were more a long, long time ago,The Other should go.The Other should go.Say it againThat was the law: no pelts in the colony ‘cause it belongs to Lizard alone.Though there were more a long, long time ago,The Other should go.The Other should go.
Take a look around you,At the world you’ve come to know.Does it really seem much more,Than a crazy circus show?Maybe from the madness,Something beautiful will grow…(Lonely and hopeless-sounding wind blows)
The future of Endtown under Jacob…….first mutants only, kick out all the non mutants….later rabbits only, kick out the rest…..but leave those who can produce food….That is what happened here in this colony….a few took over many. They booted out who they did not need and kept who they did need.Where do you think they get the eggs from…remember Linda’s egg?? I doubt they would eat their own kind. That would be uncivilized.
It looks like we’re seeing a whole different level of the colony. Up until this point we’ve seen upper levels with closed in ceilings. It was much more impressive than say Albion West, but nothing compared to Endtown. Now we’re seeing a wide open cavern with a long flight of stairs. The hallways are more open, the curved wall/ceiling replaced with a more squared off arrangement. Could something this massive be created in the seven years after the end of civilization? With hand tools? That would be amazing.
Cheapskate,In one of the last stories set in Endtown, a newspaper columnist named Jacob Jackrabbit engineered a show trial that led to him being elected the colony’s president. Before that, Endtown was run via a form of direct democracy in which random citizens served on a council. Jacob was known for having a strong bias against those humans that were immune to the mutagenic plague, so his assent into power is not good for those who still appear to be human. Beyond that, he has threatened to lead Endtown to take on the Topsiders directly. I hope this was an empty promise because given the Topsiders’ capabilities, it would be suicide.I wouldn’t hold my breath about things getting lighter in this strip. “Endtown” is a dramatic strip with tragic undertones. There are some heartwarming moments some great action and some humor but there are also a lot of heavy moments. A strip like this cannot be for everyone. If you want something lighter, I could suggest several strips including “Cloudscratcher”, “Hubris”, “Twokinds”, “Sandra and Woo”, “Skinhorse”, “Girl Genius” and “Freefall”. While I enjoy all those strips for their various charms, I think I like “Endtown” the best.
Someone commented earlier..If Lizardville is one of those species (racial) supremacy groups, will Sarah have a problem, after all?.As drawn today, Sarah is a darker color than Piotr…
What I see here is the battle is inside Sarah. She was a loyal Topsider, got cancer and they threw her to the curb to save resources, also she was no longer genetically perfect so no longer useful to the Topsiders.Termination was her future.Jim was with her, supported her, ran away with her, helped her, mutated with her, and stood by her side. His reason was his love for her. The first battle is does she love him?? Her look when she left him sleeping was one of what do I do? She may have feelings but she is really trying to keep those out of her rationalization process.Or was he just a tool to get where SHE wants to be? She is struggling with that battle now. Sarah is now looking at what these fellow lizard types have to offer. To me they seem just like Topsiders. Single mind and purpose. More ruthless than we have been shown. But few it seems in numbers. Endtown was crowded. Full of folks. This place is vacant in comparison. Its just like a Topsider settlement. The Lizards see themselves as the chosen ones for survival and no one else counts. Being Lizard is genetically perfect. Anything else is not. Topsiders use others for their own gain. Lizards are doing the same thing short of brain harvesting. I am on the fence about random killing.Does Sarah help?? Or does she self serve Sarah for her own benefit??On a side note I know a good match for Jim if Sarah kicks him to the curb.Linda. She is available. They would be an adorable pair. Of course they would all have to go back to Endtown but that would be another story.
Its hard to say how the lizards see themselves. Piotr’s party line is that they just believe that “reptilians” only is just to minimize conflicts within the group. The fearless leader’s plans to focus on recruiting Sarah and releasing Wally supports Piotr’s argument while Phil seems to undermine it. The question is how many “reptilians” agree with Piotr and how many take Phil’s reptilian superiority belief to heart? For me, the bigger question (and one that should be on Sarah’s mind) is how does this colony support itself? Do they REALLY depend on banditry to survive? How often do travelers cross the barrier ring to get to whatever is on the other side? Of those that cross, how many parties do so travel within an acceptable radius of Lizardtown? Can the few that do so provide enough to support a colony? If not, how do the lizards survive? Are the eggs enough? Do they have trade with other colonies or places outside of the wastes? Do they have any industry? Enquiring minds want to know!!!
One of the main problems with Piotr’s concept of a successful colony (beyond the possibility that a sizable number of parents will have to send their nonreptilian children away) is that they are creating the equivalent of an orchestra with only trumpets. In most bands the sounds of different instruments playing different notes fuse together to create music that is far richer than any one instrument could create. I think it is the same in society, different kinds of people working together with their different strengths and temperaments create more than a group of outwardly similar people working together. This has traditionally been one of the great strengths of America.
