The photographerâs here already!? That was fast! Good thing heâs got a wide-angle lens. That way he can fit all of Maestro in the picture, even though his arms are always outstretched.
Hmph, two points: 1. Having read Dick Tracy for at least 4 decades I donât really care for the ânewâ stuff as compared to the classics.
And 2: GO RED SOX! because as the T-shirt says âEven Jesus hates the Yankeesâ. :)
BASSMANBOB has been resurrected
His removal was certainly unexpected
What did he say that was so offensive
Whatever it was makes me apprehensive
Now we return to the embassy
And what treats do we get to see
Pops the maestro his arms flung wide
âIâm going to kill my sonâ again he cried
Will Tracy just let it go
Or deal him a nasty blow
The police photographer is on the scene
Taking pictures of what has been
But views of all the destruction
Will not help in the deduction
Of who it was that committed the crime
Making it all just a waste of time
Question the son and the violinist
And for good measure find a pianist
Make them worry and make them sweat
To the bottom of this you must get
How much longer can this go on
So far itâs proved to be one big yawn
Sorry about that BASSMANBOB1. Iâm surprised at the turn of events. Unless I missed something, your comments have all seemed good natured, mild and relatively innocuous !
I think Iâd rue ⌠if next week you had to return as BASSMANBOB2
Panel 2 - âThatâs what I aim to find outâ - Tracy.
That was your âassignedâ mission from the âget goâ back on Dec. 29. On follow up on Jan.10 you said:
âWeâll find your son and with him your valuable violinâ
Where have you been on that job ? Gallavanting at Embassy Parties and depending AGAIN on âaccidentallyâ âSTUMBLINGâ across your adversaries ?
This can happen ⌠BUT not everytime !
After you straighten your bow-tie, try âpulling up your pantsâ on the job and put a little dignity back into the profession !
â
Maybe that is the best (not great, not a masterpiece) Dick Tracy storyline from many months. I donât see plot holes. Itâs a simple, little story and finally something works .
Wait ⌠why does Phillip Harmonic want the police to find his son? I donât understand ⌠I havenât been told enough times ⌠WHY doesnât Locher tell us whatâs going on ENOUGH TIMES so we can GET IT??????
Carlo, I beg to differ. Locherâs trying to use plot twists and gimmicks that work well when harnessed to a solid story and believable writing, but without that foundation the whole thingâs just a big mess.
For example: the whole bit about the Strad almost being picked up by the x-ray machine, but then managing to get into the embassy without being checked. If such a slip-up were the exception to a rule of solid security work, it could be a good, suspense-building plot device. But the police and security work in this story has generally been depicted as slipshod and incompetent.
And, of course, thereâs the whole assassination âplot,â which barely deserves the term. Virgil Ohso doesnât just look like a Sontaran, he also apparently possesses some kind of alien mind-control abilities. How else would he have gotten the kid, the conductor, and the ambassador to arrive in the right place at the right time in the first place? So much of his âassassination plotâ is dependent on chance events going a particular way. If he can really control random events that well, he ought to get out of the revenge-killing business and go to Vegas, where he can will the dice to come up sevens.
One would never know that DT went through a âfloooomâ from his appearance today. Tux has dried and no sign of disarray. Plus Tracyâs demeanor would not suggest a concussion that he surely would have received after the wall of water from the explosion knocked him to the concrete surface surrounding the pool. A few âgurglesâ and heâs ok again!
This thing about killing his son reminds me of âIt happenedâ in the last story. Locher seems to be developing a habit of putting characters in a dialog rut where they say the same thing over and over. Perhaps this is his latest approach to avoid having to write new and interesting dialog EVERY DAY.
The BASSMAN is gone again
I think that it is a sin
His stories I thought were a hoot
Why was it him they had to shoot
There are those who do complain
Crying the same old refrain
Their morals, they are offended
And their world will be upended
By some crass and naughty post
The ones that are enjoyed by most
But the squeaky wheel gets the grease
Theyâre the determinator that is the least
But the rules we must obey
If we wish to have a say
About this and other strips
And must avoid risque quips
Or anything that might be construed
As an attack or remotely lewd
So to those who have thin skin
Learn to take it on the chin
And if what you read you do not like
I enjoin you to go and take a hike

Perhaps thatâs how he got the millions to buy the violin and the doctorâs bag full of money to pay Chris Chendo for the conversion!

Since âNobody comes in or goes out of the embassyâ, according to yesterdayâs Sunday strip, howâd the photographer get in?

Looking at security camera data would help a lot. Probably no one will think of that.

Carlo, the plot is just a series of holes strung together. See Sydneyâs post on the 27th for the most recent summary of plot holes.
