Nancy knows, because sheâs been there and done that. Because of the impetuousness of youth. She knew forewarning Luann would have little or no effect.

A little off-topic (however, Surely they have big spiders in Pitts!)âŠanyway, Iâm sitting in my computer chair trying to get caught up in FB (Ha!), when my hub points out this Really Big spider about a foot and 1/2 away from my computer desk. I mean Really bigâŠbigger than a silver dollar! Now, the hub hates spidersâŠme, not so much. But this one completely grossed me out! We have an environmentally approved bug spray, so I get it and its empty! And now this thing is running towards me! So, the hub tells me âSmash that spiderâ. And I say, "No, wayâŠI donât want to have spider goosh all over my new LLBean deck shoes!!! Well, it finally ran back under my computer desk where I sincerely (!) hope it is one dead spider! Of course, IS Katie was extremely interested in what was going onâŠshe probably thought we were nuts! I donât think Greg has ever drawn something about spiders, has he?! =-O

Do they teach pre-college students how to deal with the challenges of attending college today? Like time management for one. Or, how to check out the college campus. Or, how to get along with your room-mate, etc. That wouldnât have helped me as my first class (and most all of my freshman and sophomore classes) was in the evening and the community colleges I attended did not have on-campus housing. However, I sure could have used an Intro class on how to research and write assigned papers! (I had a college prep class my Junior year in high school, but I could find nary a note about how to go about this!). I guess Luann has learned the hard way, but perhaps that is just the way she needed to learn about her new life as a college student! ;)

This spider was way too big to grab with a piece of toilet paper (it needed industrial paper towel which was in the garage not that close to where Iâm at!). Yes, that spider Must be history by now as I donât see it anymore (but I do keep looking under my computer desk and all of the wires and such)!!! ;)

Luann was probably busy putting the cart before the horse. Literally. The principal combines work study with their required community service and detention/disciplinary action. And it teaches problem solving skills, as they learn which way to put the horse back in front. Then the Principal gets a free ride aroundâŠ..That, and a convenient way to keep PE in the schoolâŠ.â Oh, and also she was probably too busy "yelling at Quill! " for not being there enough in her mindâŠ.
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
Yes, thatâs why most of them donât bother meâŠIâm thinking it must have sneaked in when I either let IS Katie out, or when I called her back in. At any rate, that thing was on steroids!
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr over 10 years ago
Most of her âplanningâ could have been done in the roughly five hours she had between leaving the house; which I assume to have been around 7am as Frank had not yet left for work, and her noon class.Where was she? Off playing tonsil hockey with the Boy from Oz?
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
Oh, gee thanks!!! =-O

Guess Iâd better not let it play in our local baseball team⊠Well, it wonât anyway, as I think I finally dispatched it to spider heaven⊠=-P

Pacific Northwest⊠Weâve lived here 16 years and this is the first time I have seen such a big spider! Would have liked to have known what type of spider it was, but I think it is history by now (as she keeps checking under her computer desk!)⊠;)
JayBluE over 10 years ago
âIâd be looking under the chairâŠâ ^I just think you want to see if people could ever really flyâŠ.
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
Thanks for the link! Looking at the pictures, I think this was a male âGiant House Spiderâ⊠Hopefully it was because it wouldnât be toting eggs around! I really had to giggle about the âMouseâ spider! ;)
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
Well, the last I saw of it, it was moving kind of sideways by all of the computer wires under this desk. But, I do check the chair also, LOL! ;)

HahahahâŠbut my bedâs upstairsâŠone wouldnât creep up there, now would it?! =-O
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
Because if any up there are as big as this one was, Iâd KNOW it for sure (and so would IS Katie!). Actually, my hub would know as he freaks out over the regular small garden-variety ones⊠Heâll probably be awake for quite awhile after This spider adventure! ;)

LOL!
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
Thanks for the article link! When I first saw it, I couldnât believe itâŠthat was how Big the spider I saw was! All I need is a Brown Recluse spider running around⊠=-P Well, This one wonât be running around anytime soon, if ever!!! =-O

Reminds me of what Jim said at the âMichael Scott Roastâ on âthe Officeâ. He said that Michael tried to use new words like âSpider Faceâ. As in âSomeone just cut off their nose to âSpiderâ FaceââŠ

Hahahahahah!!! It had better stay in Portland, Oregon, too!!! ;P
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
OOOOOOOOhhhhhhh! Is that one of those Grade-B horror films? ;)
JayBluE over 10 years ago
That spider is âblazing a lot of trailsâ, if it got as far as Portland! It probably just stopped for a drink, and got distracted by the outdoor art galleryâŠ.
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
They can feel their feelings to themselves! ;P
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
Oh, goshâŠI canât believe it is soooo late! I should be getting sleepy, but with all of the spider-stories tonight, I am wide-awake. However, IS Katie is sound asleep as she realized all of the âfunâ was over! Soooo, âNite all! ;)-ââââââââââââââââââââââââââ-âWent to hear Mrs Turnerâs daughterâŠplay on the harpsichon*; but, Lord! it was enough to make any man sick to hear her; yet was I forced to commend her highly."

Ha! My son was one of the people who operated the engine room on a nuclear attack submarine, had two straight years of Navy classes on the subject, and is now going to college. He thinks itâs a joke and most folks canât study or manage their time.

In AZ, a big, fast house spider, is a Wolf spider, which wonât hurt you, I think! And, they donât like the light.

Leave out the words âcollege prepâ and youâve got it right.
2Goldfish over 10 years ago
All that nonsense and she only has ONE class on her first day?
TheLiam over 10 years ago
I didnât realize college prep was supposed to hold your hand. You would have thought that Luann would know about planning out her timing and where to park without having someone tell her that. Then again, this is the same girl who decided to go to Pitts CC because it would enable her to spend more time with Quill. Seems logic is not her strong suit.

Has college changed that much? I had homework my first day of every semester.
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr over 10 years ago
Looking for something like this?
Mayor Snorkum over 10 years ago
All her high school courses were useless to Luann, who learned nothing at all. Thatâs why sheâs in junior college (for maybe one semester). And this C.C. seems to have a campus the size of the University of Michigan. Whatâs up with that?
nanellen over 10 years ago
Have you seen CC lately? They are getting bigger all the time.

Addendum:THIS is where TJ should have been parking his food truck, where multitudes of hungry students hang out.

Actually, college prep classes are very valuable⊠to the companies offering them, to the companies offering tutoring for them, to the stockholders of those companiesâŠ

Jim Stafford wrote a song called, âSpiders and Snakesâ. He does C/W songs with humor in them. The song comes from the album, âNot Just Another Pretty Footâ. He had a lit cigarette between his toes!
capricorn9th over 10 years ago
Yup. thought Luann would realize her wardrobe is not appropriate. Just go back to tee shirts and jeans, the same attire you wore in high school.
Jim Kerner over 10 years ago
I just went on the spider web site, sorry. Just what I needed to know. A spider spits. Yuck! A faux black widow, wonderful. This is just two of the thirty three different spiders in Oregon. The one spider that you donât have is the Garfield newspaperus , splatterus, flaterus, pancakeus, spider..

Good thing sheâs still a dependent of Mom & Dad, so she doesnât have to: 1) Find an apartment, 2) Find a job or other funding to pay costs, 3) Find a grocery store, 4) Find a laundromat, 5) Find a church community⊠like those of us who became independent at 18 did!
Jim Kerner over 10 years ago
Sorry, Dave. But I couldnât see it.

BS: Re spider picture. Thereâs one a lot like this terrorizing Kansas City! Must have come in on same space ship.

Yeah, the pic wouldnât come up for me, either, and it usually doesâŠ

Luann should move on-campus.
TORAD_07 over 10 years ago
Eh, he could do that when she graduates college with a mountain of debt and no job prospects, and the âadult lifeâ factor would be ramped up 100
Maybe, but we all know where her focus is now⊠and with her turning 18 very soon, Iâm sure there will be a push to âassert herself,â and Iâm sure there will be a lot of " âpush backâ from Frank & Nancy (i.e. âNot in our houseâ)! Had Lu been attending Moony, the problem wouldnât exist, as sheâd have her residential space away from the house, albeit sheâd have to deal with her roommateâs âhouse rules,â and that of the UnivâŠ
JayBluE over 10 years ago
Not only that, but sometimes putting too much detail into the story at the beginning will drag it down, some, and limits what you can do creatively. Once you get in your mind where you want it to go, or when you can tell what the audience would be most moved by, then you can fill in those details later onâŠ

Spiders are as spiders doâŠ
ORMouseworks over 10 years ago
This is my last post today about the spider incident (yes, I know, I can hear the âhooraysâ from all the way up here!) The hub and I determined that nasty spider was a Giant House Spider of the male persuasionâŠnot a Brown Recluse as I originally thought⊠;)

My wife once found a wolf spider on the kitchen counter. Just then, it jumped about half a foot, landing on a house fly that had alighted and paused for a second, killing it instantly. She decided to let the spider be.
