Tracy’s aim isn’t as good as it used to be. In the old
days he always shot the bad guy right between the
eyes. Of course that was the main reason my local
newspaper quit having the strip. Too much violence.
Hail, hail, The gang is almost all here
We need to send out for some beer
We wait for little leakysqueaky
Who may be becoming just a bit creaky
I hope she is not somewhere moping
Because yesterday I said she was groping
To her I did prostrate myself and apologized
Because as I said I don’t want to be eulogized
Her ire I is something I do not want to raise
So let me forthwith shower her with praise
She of countenance divine
And dulcet tones sublime
A rare and precious flower
Sitting prettily in her bower.
As to Tracy and the strip
Locher really needs to get a grip
Plenty of action there may be
But the art is terrible to see.
Tracy’s gun shut has been run and now re-run twice.
How many times before we all get the idea?
I guess he’ll run it until the dumbest among us understands what’s happening.
What *is* happening, by the way?
Virgil is shot in the left side, so he drops the pistol (which looks like a snub-nosed semiautomatic, maybe the only one in existence) that he’s holding in his right hand.
And to add to what VanDork said, the Department of State investigation will doubtless drag out even past that.
Low Note is showing concern for Virgil. He didn’t shout “Boss!”, but “Virgil!!” with TWO exclamation points. Maybe there’s a little acapella going on….
First of all, it appears that the shooter is actually someone standing behind Tracy. Secondly, “I’ve been shot!”??? I think “Unh!” or even “Ouchie!” would be a more appropriate exclamation.
As others have noted this is the third “look-a-like” panel of short arm Tracy firing his gun. They are not paste up panels, but the general “LAYOUTS” are the same. Except that on Sunday (7th panel) it appears Tracy is aiming at Virgil’s TOES … yet today, he gets hit in the side, near the HEART (?)
I once heard on the other D.T. Board from those that should know, that TMS allowed Locher only TWO shooting scenes per year and the Author had to seek advance “approval”.. And BLOOD must never be depicted.
TMS was so “hyper” (and afraid of “Granny letters”) that in 1998 & 1999 Big Grouper Grabado and Slugs Magnum (villains of the time) had to be killed by their OWN ricochet bullets.
Perhaps they have relaxed the rule on the “number” of shootings a bit but the sounds of gunshots (i.e. “POW” and “BLAM”) seem intended to SOFTEN the “gunfighting” effect, LIKE Elmer Fudd’s in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
FlightSuit: “Two bad guys down with gun shot wounds before any detective work is required. How convenient.”
Hey, one small step at a time. First we get gunshots (though, given how tiny is the “POW” in panel two, Tracy must be using either a popgun or a silencer). Real detective work (as opposed to relying on dumb luck and dumber villains) is the next step.
Sydney said “Perhaps they have relaxed the rule on the “number” of shootings a bit but the sounds of gunshots (i.e. “POW” and “BLAM”) seem intended to SOFTEN the “gunfighting” effect, LIKE Elmer Fudd’s in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.”
How far we have come from the days when DT grabbed a tommy gun and singelhandedly wiped out almost the Flatop Gang.
Dick Tracy ” Come on you Mugs, start eating a little of this!”
One guy in that sequence took four shots to the face.
But my favorite has always been when he threw away his gun and took the Brow out with his bare hands.
Dick Tracy “Brother you’d better start worrying cause I’m gonna but another wrinkle in that Brow”
Sigh..I miss the old days .. being Immortal is such a pain in the rump.
It’s was on the weekend news about newspapers for comics especially reducing size due to costs. Don’t they realize people get intertainment from the comics.
Great work as always, Carlo! Everybody take a look at panel two of Carlo’s latest offering. Notice how the hand is actually the right size and shape for a human hand? Notice the appropriate placement of the thumb, as as not to interfere with the gun’s operation?
Carlo, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Please give us more of this strip more often!

I agree. This isn’t a comic strip for the faint hearted. Only the strong can survive here!

Tracy’s gun went from blam to pow. They can’t even keep the simple things straight.
Tracy last shot someone on 7/1/09. But I think that was the first time in years.
