Whoa…. Lee Salem was, maybe still is, one of the most influential men in the comics business…

Till this past spring he was president of Universal UClick (including GoComics) …. the position now held by John Glynn..AFAIK, he’s still alive and kicking.Maybe at Wiley, after this….

Let’s see, it would have taken three slices, hard to picture it….Unless he did it over a period of years…

I split my gut laughing.

I hope his widow won’t go to pieces too.

He should have practiced with Ginsu knives first.

One presumes he lost his head and things went downhill from there.

He just fell to pieces pieces pieces…

So he did really ‘cut up’. His family had only one way to ‘have’ it all; or was it just more ‘piece’ full?

A real comedian that Lee Salem. A real cut up!

Lee Salem was the stellar comics editor of Universal Press Syndicate. He helped discover and/or nurture dozens of strips, including Bill Watterson’s “Calvin and Hobbes,” Lynn Johnston’s “For Better or for Worse,” Jeff Millar/Bill Hinds’ “Tank McNamara”, Richard Thompson’s “Cul de Sac” and Mark Tatulli’s “Lio” — as well as editing Garry Trudeau’s “Doonesbury,” which won a Pulitzer the year after Salem arrived.

It takes a big man to fill four graves.
