Actually, it’s the plane of the earth’s orbit that aligns with the plane of the earth’s equator. That’s not the same thing as “the axis of the sun”.

Actually, the line of intersection between the plane of the earth’s orbit amd the plane of the earth’s equator points directly at the sun. And twilight doesn’t count as day, so the length of the day (sunrise to sunset) equals the length of the night (sunset to sunrise). Surprisingly the time it takes for the disk of the sun to cross the horizon is only about two minutes.

Fictionally is sounded like a good excuse to nap twice.

Actually, on a equinox the sun sets directly in the west only if you are on the equator.

And only 94 shopping days until Christmas.

I’m thinking that “a normal to the sun lies on the plane of the Earth’s equator” is a good fix (although I’ve always said “normal to the Earth’s axis”).

My faith is shattered. The other day, I used Google to find out when fall begins in 2014. It said “September 23rd.” I went, “Ok, it’s really late this year.” Then comes A & J today, so I looked it up again. It said 10:29 p. m., EDT, September 22nd. So I got an epiphany that you can’t always trust Google. (Irony there, folks. ;-} ) BTW, does fall fall all over the world at 10:29 EDT, or just where I am? I would ask Google, but I don’t trust it.

Furthermore, some latitudes don’t have deciduous trees so the leaves don’t fall en masse (or something like that).

Shouldn’t it all be off by the hour for the @#!! daylight savings time?

“fall” starts on March first in the southern hemisphere…

There is no “September Equinox”; it’s the Autumnal Equinox.
