Frazz by Jef Mallett for October 26, 2014
Transcript:
Girl: It ruins a nice day when there are fewer and fewer nice days left. We don't need it to water the crops we've already hauled in. It knocks the last good leaves off the trees. I can't think of a single good thing about rain in October. Mrs. Olsen: It isn't snow yet. Girl: I didn't know you could sound optimistic by injecting more pessimism. Frazz: Ah, you found Mrs. Olsen's hidden talent.

October is the BEST month of the year, in my opinion. The air is cooler, the crowds are gone, the trees are gorgeous, the lighting is more interesting, and there is the hope of a replenishing wet winter. The only downside is that low sun always seems to be in my eyes when I am hiking the EMPTY trails.

In south Louisiana, we need rain in October-February to help the upcoming crawfish crop.

For those on a well system here in BC, the rain is providing a much needed fill-up of the aquifer.

What is this “rain” thing people are talking about? Does it have to do with the internet? Or maybe it’s some new kind of game the kids are playing. I don’t get it.

This time of year, I call rain “self-shoveling snow”.

I love this! And we actually got water falling out of the sky yesterday. I thought it had forgotten how to do that. (Now go snow in the Sierras, we need it.)

I’m hearing Boris from “Lady and the Tramp” : “Miserable being must find more miserable being. Then, is happy”.
