Actually, Antony was far more subtle than he is represented by Shakespeare’s invented funeral speech. In stead, he slyly had a herald read the senate’s previous official declaration of Julius’s status as leader and divinity, showing up his murders to be criminals against authority, rather than righteous deposers of a self made king, something that would otherwise have been highly honored in Rome, whose citizens hated the idea of a monarch. The mod went wild and headed off to do in Brutus and company. But they got away with it. (The mob was only able to find a kill one man, an innocent man called Cinna who they mistook for the actual conspirator of the same name. (He couldn’t have been more surprised. There was walking down the street, and up runs the mod and offs him.) And Marc, as everyone knows, came to a bad end. And Octavian ended up becoming a king anyway. Funny how things work out.
