Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for December 14, 2014

Transcript:
Brad: "This suit is hot, the padding's heavy, the hat gives me a headache and the beard is scratchy"
Toni: "You volunteered to do this, Brad. But if you don't want to-"
Brad: "Are you kidding?!"
Brad: "Ho Ho Ho! Hi, kids!!"
Kids: "Santa!!"
Iâd like to see an update on the Brad & Toni storyline this coming week. Itâs too soon to get back to Gunther & Rosa, and the dorm life of Bernice and Tiffany isnât all that compelling. Also, a week of interaction between Quill & Luann wouldnât be bad, eitherâŠ
âIs that Shannon on the right edge?â-ââââââââââââââââAs all the other kids are apparently younger representatives of the rest of the Luann cast, I suspect the raven-haired child is supposed to be an avatar of Crystal.
The little kids love Santa Claus, and Bradley thrives on it! Fear not, Toni. And if Shannon (as that black-haired girl certainly looks like her) recognizes him, well, that shouldnât deter the other kids. (I can remember way back to my early youth when one or another uncle would portray Santa; I would recognize him, but went along with the deception so as not to disappoint the grupsâŠ.)
Oh, Isnât That NICE! The Little Boy in the Black Shirt âLOVESâ South Carolina! The Kid SHUDDA Got a Shirt with a Palm Tree and Crescent Moon, Though!
âIâd argue that Brad is too young to be a convincing Santa though. All it takes is one somewhat intelligent kid to notice how young Santaâs face looks and you have a bunch of traumatized kids when the jig is up.â.Nah, Santa being a magical creature isnât limited to old age wrinkles and such mundane things. Churches had me play Santa for them in my mid twenties because I brought the right personality to the gig. Nowadays, kids run up to hug me on the assumption I must at least know the fellow.
âIâm pretty sure it was because he didnât hit her like Dirk did. The non-violent approach was attractive.â.Nah, nobody hit her besides Dirk. That wouldnât distinguish Brad from the rest of decent humanity.
âhe didnât hit her, and sheâs thrilled about that, so much so that she stays with him despite of all the things they donât agree on and refuse to talk about.â,Canât be love?,Interesting world view.If not for the irrational fear that every other man in the world would beat her, she would dump Brad because she disagrees with some of the things he says, thinks or does?Every couple in the world who ever disagrees but stays together is just settling to avoid the meaner masses ready to jump on them?.I like my world better.
"I think once the âlustâ wears off, which it is seemingly doing, Toni is starting to regret her rash decision of proposing to Brad completely based on seeing Dirk move on and being jealous of what he has, a relationship that is actually built on love."..Could be, could not be.You are assuming lust and fear to be primary motivators.Donât know why or why you think they would wear off if they were.
Actually, I thought todayâs strip was light-hearted! And doesnât your heart melt when the children shout âSanta!!!â For awhile these kids get to forget all of the things that bother children at that age, and revel in being the believing children that they are. Sweet.

Looks like Brad regained his Christmas spirit!

Heâs going to make a great dad.
DaJellyBelly about 10 years ago
I donât think Brad was really complaining. He was just making remarks about the costume.
Angelalex242 about 10 years ago
I think this proves he was simply venting at Luann last week. This is how the real Brad treats Christmas. Itâs totally for the kids.
Angelalex242 about 10 years ago
Also, a callback to that fire fighterâs calender where Brad was the picture for December.

This is what Toni found attractive about Brad from the start- how he interacts with kids. Love it.

Is that Shannon on the right edge? Wouldnât she recognize âBwadâ?
Maybe. But I donât think sheâd blow his cover at this point.
It would seem, though, that all the other boy wants for XMAS is his âtwo front teeth!â ;-PPP

As this Santa is a firefighter, theyâd have to nominate one of the higher-ups to be Santa as all the regular guys are younger.

All this complaining from a guy, who, on the job, wears a huge hat, a canvas suit, a mask, and sometimes an air tank on his back?
TORAD_07 about 10 years ago
I âheartâ SC. Who knew Evans was a fan of South Carolina? Or does he mean âSouthern Californiaâ?
Perhaps, Santa Claus?

Brad has evolved for the better and Toni sees a secure future with him. (Dull stuff, but secure).
