How picturesque! Everyone’s depicting what they’re feeling….captured well in the expressions and postitioning…. – At least Gunther knew the right spot for himelf- plenty of medical supplies and first aid(?) to comfort and surround him… – Even though, to Rosa, this is an “all you can eat buffet”, Gunther still went ahead with some… reservations ….

I hope those boxes of medication contain something to help both of them once they arrive at the clinic in the high-altitude mountain village: an inhaler for Gunther’s asthma, and a downer for Rosa’s mania.

As soon as they leave town, the clinic’s computer network will crash, and its phones will go unanswered, leaving the patients in panic. These are two very irresponsible young people. Shame on them both,

To be honest this strip is going is circles and its getting irritating. This is just what happened when Gunther and Rosa went to Peru. Rosa was excited while Gunther was scared. Then when they arrived Rosa didn’t like it because she expected it to be better . Now it looks like it is about to happen again. :(

Gunther has been pretty adaptable before, in the prom storyline, and in deciding to go to Peru in the first place. I think he’s the natural product of growing up in a fairly sheltered home environment — but he’s risen to every challenge so far. I think he’s coming to terms with his background and realizing that he’s got a lot more on the ball than he ever knew. He’ll cope.

I worry that Rosa is appearing more and more self-absorbed, and doesn’t seem to be paying much attention to how Gunther is taking all this. I don’t doubt that it’s good for him, but I’m less sure of her intentions and perspective. She was overjoyed when Gunther said he was going, but she doesn’t seem to notice (or care?) what he’s going through.

I enjoy the G&R strips and the ones with Brad & Toni, where the characters seem to actually be growing. I get kind of tired of Lu, Bern, and the rest of the home town crowd who really do seem to be school-children who have outgrown twelfth grade without maturing much, if at all.

Well, Quill, maybe. Kind of. And I’ll bet he’s already rehearsing the break-up speech he’ll use on Luann some day, when it’s just too painfully obvious that he’s years more grown-up than she is, whatever their respective ages.

Good morning all, and congratulations to United Space Alliance and NASA! We are back in space! Delta 4 Heavy Rocket launched the unmanned Orion for its trial in deep space! And what great pics of that launch!-How beautifully ironic that Rosa said ‘We are free at last to spread our wings’, because once again, the US is free to continue our quest in space, without having to rely on another nation to carry our astronauts. -Funny also that yesterday Gunther said he felt like he was going to Mars; maybe in our lifetimes (surely his) that trip is now possible. Who knows, maybe that’s what Gunther will end up doing?-Right now, of course, while Rosa excitedly opens her arms to the next phase of an adventure, Gunther sits with his arms tightly at his sides, hemmed in by boxes of supplies. But it need not always be thus…

Rosa’s unbridled enthusiasm may get curbed, but she’ll learn and it will lead her to opportunities and accomplishments. Gunth old boy, I am hard on you. But your lesson better be to learn to overcome your insecurities and fears to unleash those talents. The world needs them. Rosa, I don’t believe, can live with someone so self-obsessive. I still think Rosa is just a spoiled child who has never been financially responsible for herself. With her it is a one way street. She would leave Gunther flat in a minute if he said he wanted her to go home with him and go to school. Gunther, living for the moment is great, but do that after you get your college degree in engineering or IT, or whatever so you can take care of yourself – I guess Rosa’s family is paying your way now by giving you the job, hopefully with a paycheck,

I would really like to see Luann in a college classroom and confirming that she is getting her required courses out of the way when she finally decides what to do with her life.

I agree. One may not be prolific or qualified as an IT repair tech, but one can be good at troubleshooting certain issues that come up that don’t involve actually “digging inside” of equipment, or having “admin permissions”. Ranging from being able to know how to perform certain software functions ( not everyone knows how to optimize their Excel use ) to how to get the printers to print out a doc in just the size and format you’re looking for, among other things…– Sort of how some people know how to “unstick” the vending machine, without causing an accident, or how get “ol’ Betsy” to spit out the right amount of copies/faxes….

If you insist on classifying someone who is an idealist and wants to help others as ‘selfish’, I hope for your sake you never need any help with anything. You may, ya see, need to rely on someone who takes a risk and gives you CPR, even though it makes them late for work, or even though they run the risk of being sued by your survivors of you don’t make it.-Your constant harping on how everyone would condemn one character if she abandoned her job to go help others (which you call ‘an adventure’, and those who feel called to help may consider ‘a mission’) overlooks the distinct possibility that the character you are defending is probably never likely to be drawn to a ‘do-gooder’ mission that would require her to stop modeling, or whatever…- Never mind. You are determined to regard idealists and do-gooders as evil doers. That’s just your loss. I hope they will continue to try to help others.

I was a lot like Gunther when I was a teen. One day, years later, I signed up for a mission in Kenya to help build a youth center in the slums. For several months, I was shaking in my shoes just thinking about the impending trip; I had visions of the plane crashing in the ocean. But I made up my mind that I was going on this trip and if this was the way I died, so be it. It was such an incredible adventure, I became addicted to international travel/adventure. I’ve even been to one of the jungle cities in Peru to work in a make-shift medical clinic. We flew from Lima to Puccalpa because it is very dangerous to make the drive. I hope Gunth and Rosa are not mugged or kidnapped on the way.

I’ve known a few people who went on short term mission trips with a little trepidation, and loved the experience so much they ended up doing it as a career.
