La pregunta del día….la pregunta del día… – Gunther’s been tossing in the unsure dreams, from the down feather and comforter that is his mind… and now it’s time to wake up… and make it up… – Was that opportunity knockin’ for Gunther? Or maybe it was just the engine….

Gunther might find it easier to answer Luis’s question if he actually had decided what his dream was. (Getting a PhD in Engineering is only a ‘dream’ if it would be difficult to accomplish; for Gunther, it would probably be easy to do the work, and the money probably isn’t an issue.) This is essentially what Quill was asking Gunther, in another way: what do you ‘love’ Gunther? What is the path you dream of?

The only way this could work well is if Gunther was moved to compassion upon seeing everyone needed direct help, and got genuinely interested in doing good deeds there. Being Gunther, he’ll plan out how best to help. He still needs to be Rosa’s string.

Rosa has me really really annoyed here. Going to Peru to her uncle is one-thing …. this is just crazy fantasy. She is dragging her “boyfriend” into it not because she wants him there, but because she feels it validates her plan that someone is ready to come along.I really hope the story comes to her plonking on her head and realizing what a noob she has been, while Gunther gets so much more out of it.

Gunther would do well to remember Quill’s advice – find out if this is what he wants. Do this trip to see if he wants to follow Rosa to the ends of the earth. Because she’s not going to follow him, and she’s not going to sit still.

The indigenous people, they sing folk songs and tell tall tales of the Gringo, the terrible and ruthless Gringo, who united the cartels and ruled with an iron fist. He had taken the name “El Guapo,” but is perhaps better known as “El Terrible.” Villagers would bring him tribute and pay him homage.

Agreed. From the looks of the strip, it sounds like this might be the break point for this arc. We’ll go back to Pitts for a while for the holidays, and then come back here (I suppose) when Gunther has made his decision.

Whichever way it works out, I still would like Rosa to remain in the strip. Hopefully, with Gunther in whatever capacity he finds himself. But if that’s not meant to be, then I’d still rather see her anyway. She has a little maturing to do as well, and I’d like to see how she does with that.

Well, There’s a loaded question that I do not even think Rosa has asked him. Personally, I think a fair answer would be, I dunno. Certain to raise an eyebrow, but really.. at age 19, how many of us really knew our path. I think Rosa is running on the adrenaline of what she thinks her path is. Lets see what happens when what she thinks is her path and the reality of what is collide. Its not pretty when you find out that the world isn’t always what you want it to be.

Why would Uncle Leo knowingly send them 6 hours away across dangerous roads, where they could be kidnapped or worse?

How do we know that’s where he’s sending them? I don’t think even Rosa knows precisely where she’s headed.

Also, how would a remote mountain retreat change the status quo? Rosa would only get madder and more determined to find her vision of a remote village.

Maybe… maybe not. If she suddenly gets that her family (via Uncle Leo) is controlling her existence in Peru to that great extent, maybe she’ll just give up and ask to go home. Granted, she’s not there yet… she’s still got a little “stubborn” in her. But, eventually, she’ll come to that Epiphany. What she does after that is the $64K question. I don’t think she’ll have many options since she doesn’t have financial control of her life, at this point. But she might put something together.

The best solution for everyone is for Leo and Rosa’s family to end this pointless charade and stop wasting everyone’s time. Send Rosa and her dog back to America

Perhaps for Rosa’s family, but not necessarily for her. I’d be pretty disappointed in that end result as you seem to be with the current results (or lack of them). I want her to get control of her life from her family. Maybe this isn’t the right vehicle for it, but neither is going back to do what her family wants. Of course, she’ll have to lean to provide for herself, but there are ways to do that (i.e. start from nothing). Not that I think her family would abandon her totally, but she’d have to face that to gain the control of her life she wants.

I think that, Luis, the driver is acting like a father figure for Gunther. “The impulsive young girl is doing all the talking, son. Why are you doing this?” Poor, love sick, puppy dog will be henpecked all his life with Rosa. Best match is still Crystal and Knute. Some day they will be married by an Elvis impersonator, in a tiny chapel near a Comic character Convention, and spend their first night watching a Three Stooges and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark film marathon.

Gunther really needs to listen to himself more. This is very co-dependent. He needs to take initiative to communicate with his girlfriend about what he really wants. He also needs to get out of that country and do something of his own after that if he doesn’t feel happy in Peru. I understand how terrifying it can sometimes be to set boundaries but it’s necessary if you have a problem like that.
