The cozy blankets, hot cider and cracking fire inside" Quill: "Hm" Quill: "In Australia, the winter holidays mean hot, sunny days at the beach with an icy beverage and sunscreen" Luann: "Remind me why we get along?" Quill: "'Cuz I tolerate your strange customs?"

That was a fast âwhite Christmasâ! I guess Quill can handle the cold weather better than I can. Heâs not even wearing a coatâŠ

Aah, the customary âyear-end walk through the parkâ. Just like last yearâs argument at the food truck and the snow globe and the âwalk of reconciliationâ that followed⊠minus the argument part⊠and the snow globe⊠â Wow, so many people are matched as âopposites attractâ (including friends who are night and day, but come together to make a whole)âŠ.. â People here think that their December is normal. People who live in the âupside downâ part think that their âstrange little quirky seasonâ (just kidding!) is normal. Iâs just a funny thing about us a people, that we tend to associate whatever is in our familiar domain as the âbe all, end allââŠ.

Um⊠actually itâs summer in Australia, not winter.
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr about 10 years ago
In Australia, this time of year is not called âwinterâ anything, because itâs NOT.Iâm pretty sure they donât ascribe any season to the event, and possibly just call it âthe holidaysâ.Whereâs a true Aussie when you need âim"

I just love the way âYankâ(Luann) and âOzâ(Quill) look at each other. Canât wait to see what happens at Luannsâ New Years party.

Unless that was a sunset, shouldnât the sun be higher? And winter is not a sweater weather.

Winter. Itâs always freezing cold, raining, threat of rain, icy weather and threat of icy weather. I do not like any weather that keeps me off my motorcycle

Hey, you guys are in SoCal; no snow, not really so cold. Try the Upper Midwest, Luann. Quill will freeze into an Ozsickle!

I wonder, if Luann flushed their relationship down the toilet in Australia, would it spin the opposite way?

I had an Australian friend at school in London. He was terribly homesick on Christmas precisely because it was so weird an alien, all that cold and snow when Christmas to him meant swimming pool and heat. As for snow, he had never seen any and thought that it always fell in big fluffly golf ball size flakes as shown on drawings or in TV (that was in the early 80âs). He was very disappointed to discover small flakes and freezing winds

In Saskatoon, itâs supposed to go down to -32 C.

The frost from their breath should have looked like little hearts.

I agree with L! 80 degrees in the winter is just wrong!

When did little Luann get such a small head on such a long body?
bgby4884 about 10 years ago
Gee. I wonder what holidays these might be. Interesting that the only group we canât be tolerant of is the one that started Christmas. Amazing how scary God is. Perhaps this is Harry Potter: (He who must not be named)! Shame.

Hey, has anyone noticed any âsluggishnessâ in re: the GoComics server today? The graphics seem to load rather slowly, if at all.
Hope everyone is enjoying the rest of their 2014!

Qu â youâre being silly. In case you didnât know, in Australia âwinter holidaysâ would occur June-August! Why not just say âChristmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Yearsâ?

One of the air bubbles is a laughing hippopotamus, another a butterfly. Canât make out the third.

@wannabeaussie @bsqnbayâI grew up with a tradition among my friends of going surfing on Christmas Day. To me, snow and cold is âjust wrongâ.â.For many around here it was water skiing.

Thank goodness, theyâve gotten out of the house. Now, Frank and Nancy are going to get some romantic privacy. New baby on the way.

Itâs not that Oz winters are so warm and sunny, itâs that Oz summers happen during northern winters.

Down under here we have the holiday period variously known (In Victoria at least) as âChristmas breakâ,âSummer holidaysâ,âEnd of year holidaysâ. School ends roughly mid December and starts the new school year end of January.Iâve never known a cold Christmas (now 50). Last Thursday was 24C. Beautiful day. Lots of BBQs. It was 31C today. Saturday will be 37C. Australianâs get a minimum of 4 paid weeks leave a year (and it can accumulate). Most will take a few weeks off at this time of year.
