Bravo, Arlo. I installed Ghostery to kill Meebo (the Google ad engine that seized control of computers.) Stayed with it even after Google killed Meebo.
Adblock and flashblock. In addition to blocking CPU-hogging content you don’t want to see, it also blocks many (but sadly, not all) vectors for malware.
The best way to not click on spam is to not see it at all.
Typically, if the video or story or what have you says that “you won’t believe what happens next” or “this will blow your mind” or something of that nature, it has been my experience that the video or story or what have you is nothing of the sort..Now if it just said that “this is cute” or “this is funny” or something like that, and didn’t over hype it, I might agree… but my mind isn’t blown that easily.
What is really annoying is these pop ups that cover part of the comic….I know they help keep the site free to many of us…but it is really a pain in the fatty acids to put up with these….and usually….I won’t buy their product!!
I know this is too late for anybody much to see . . . oh, not too late for you? Hi! Anyhow, Huffpost (I think it’s them – it’s on AOL, anyhow), will often have teaser headlines. On general principles, I won’t read them. Maybe if nobody would read them, they wouldn’t annoy is any longer . . .

I have the same knee jerk reaction when people say ‘I don’t think…’; I ask myself why should I listen then.

Arlo must have logged onto Whether.com. They have those video distractions.

Actually, Arlo must be on GoComics. I have six clickbaits right below every strip.

I have bad reactions to “Can I ask you a question?” and “Do you want to hear a joke?”

I refuse to watch those on principal. (Unless there’s a cat in it. I can’t resist the cat stuff. I need intervention.)
