Little Attitude is getting bigger now. This can’t be good. We still can’t see his face, though, which I take it is a good thing.
This is about the first time in months that we’ve sen B.O. without a chicken in his arms. I guess the Plentys are too busy running from Little Attitude to go visit Trey yet.
Regarding yesterday, per the 12/26/48 strip, Sam was a busy man before joining Dick Tracy…he started out as a dentist (!), ran a deli in Philly, studied law, worked on the police force in Brooklyn, the detective bureau in Chicago, and was a special investigator in Boston for 2 years, before returning to his hometown from a request by Chief Patton.I know there’s been previous debates about Tracy’s locale, but according to this, in 1948, it was neither New York or Chicago.
Have y’all noticed that Gravel Girtie’s old-timey wall-mounted rotary-dial phone only has 8 digits instead of the necessary 10?.
. Very interesting! Does anyone else think it’s odd how david42 points out a true but very minor mistake in today’s strip and yet my stalker Quick Draw McGraw and his side kick Baba Louie feel no need to post several comments complaining about it? Hmmm, I wonder what would have been posted if I was the one who mentioned the phone? Oh wait I see it was important to comment something lame about my snoring. Can someone say “Baloney Sandwich”? LOL!
There is really no unique mystery to Lt. Teevo entry into the strip . . .He arrived Feby. 17, 2007 (selected apparently by Chief Patton, who was about to retire) to fill an upcoming ‘vacancy’ in the Squad, one created due to Lizz’s promotion, to the new post as Chief. He was created while Dick Locher was both Writer and Artist. And from a short conversation Locher had with Beau Kaelin (creator of the DT Yahoo board) he Locher was optimistic about the future of the new character.
We never did hear how Teevo got his Lieutenant status (or in what service?) Nor did we ever hear his first name ! ? Oddly, he was introduced without a background. Unlike Sam (yesterday) mentioned in his intro, as having a family. Wife and daughters. And the places where he worked. Lizz years later, a photographer, had recently then been married to a reporter named Jimmy Worthington. Groovy Grove who came even later, would have a daughter named Tinky
Lt. Teevo introduced himself as a “Communication Specialist” - apparently manifested in verbal fashion, and on the first day on the job surprised Tracy with - “As of 12pm yesterday you have 12 new messages.” And this to a detective who walks around with a message carrying Wrist Geenee on his hand ! ? Seems he ‘defined’ his function on the Squad, which was apparently mainly an Office one. And during Locher’s remaining 5 years on the strip, Teevo was seen to leave HQ only twice. Once to see Tracy in the Circus tale and the other with Lizz and Sam to see Tracy act in a play with Johnny Nothing
The novelty of his “verbal messaging” quickly wore thin, .and it seems Locher wasn’t slow to realize that. The concept of a supporting Squad was de-emphasized in the years after 2006, with Tracy taking on a Lone Wolf role Even a time when Sam wasn’t “pictured” for nearly 18 months and Teevo was hardly seenHis features did change significantly. Starting with black hair and a Ski Jump nose, readers found these were quickly morphed away to white/grey hair and a straight nose (?)
To put it all in context Collins had parted with TMS in unpleasant fashion, one that had a Court ruling deciding that TMS should pay Collins (an undetermined sum) for use of any character he created.. That included Johnny Adonis and Lee Ebony members of the MCS. So Locher and new writer Mike Kilian ceased to use them and what had been Collins’ creation Joe Tracy, suddenly became “Cool Dude” Tracy
With the advent of Locher’s departure (2011) and the current Teams arrival, one can ‘assume’ that Max Collins dropped the payment requirement, as names and faces have all returned to the strip, including villains like Putty PussThe creation query on Teevo is as stated above. Subsequently, Mike (I imagine), was looking for a “FALL GUY”, a familiar faced inside man - to feed police information to the New Mr, Crime Gang. Seems Mike rightly saw Lt. Teeve as dispensable, and near perfect for the role he played. If nothing else. Lt. Teevo started out as a Distinctive “looking” character, even if Locher failed to add needed Value elsewhere. Like Locher’s Queen of Diamonds of 2007 - “memorable”, but little more than a “Face Card”.you’d cut from a deck.
Wow, Gweedo! Did you really arrange for Johnny and the Hurricanes to play “Taps” for me? I’m dying to hear that! The zombie crowd will be dancing in the streets when they hear that! “Shake, Rattle, and Roll” boys and girls!
Listen up guys! I might not make it until 1:11 am even though it will be the Sunday strip. I’m dead tired already and Rikki wants me to go with her to meet an old friend, Count something or other. She said that he lives in the cemetery and only comes out at night. She said that he has the secret to longevity and has been around for ages, So… I’ll see you guys later! Things are certainly livening up around here!

Maybe Attitude looks like Abner Kadaver and GG will have a lot of ‘splainin’ to do.

Is B.O. running with or from Little Attitude? I’m guessing Gertie thinks “with”, but B.O.’s expression in the last panel suggests “from.”

funny how some characters age here and some don’t…..
tsull2121 almost 10 years ago
Unless of course Abner’s face was DAMAGED by the concrete and he now wears the mask to “look normal again”
since theres no more Dr. Will Carver to restore Abner’s stunning good looks.. he had to opt for the mask instead
